So I have decided to take my coin collection and imaging a step forward following the steps of my good friend Robec. Recently I created a web site as a way to enjoy my imaging as well as creating a coin traker. Since I have been applying everything that I have gathered from coin imaging and utilizing Mr. Robecs teachings and web site I have managed in the last few days to get some great images of my coins. Now I am going to see if I can link a picture from my web site to here and see if my image comes up. Well it didnt work so here is the image I was trying to show. Let me know what you think of the image. I know I need to work on lighting which is my next step. A lessoned learned all coins do not like the same lighting techniques.
Not mine, but a strong effort was put forth. This has to be one of the most beautiful 1909-S VDB's out there.
Bob, That coin is absolutely gorgeous as are your images. Since you have seen the coin in hand, do you have any concerns that the coin may have been treated with MS70 given the pink/blue color? Paul
I can't really give you a good answer to that Paul. I've never seen a coin that I know for certain was treated with MS70. I've seen many pre 1930 Lincoln's with this type toning. I've seen them raw, in PCGS slabs and NGC slabs, but I don't know for sure how the toning was acquired. I must not have been too concerned as I offered one of my prized MPL for it. The owner wasn't too concerned either........he turned me down flat!!
The pennies are harder, I guess it's the color/lighting that I need to mess with more. Here's my first go-round with a penny and the new camera.
Pace the cents are hard to do but as I have learned with Lincoln cents angling the camera to capture the color works best.
This is a natural color for copper to tone to. I own quite a few that look like this and I've sold a bunch that had this plumb color. robec - Nice try man! I think I would have gone crazy if I had seen this coin. This is my favorite toned color and to see it on an SVDB.....wow....awesome!
I have to agree G. But have seen mint sealed AME green box coins come back from Pcgs with same details noted. I guess that's why Ngc most likely to have a higher population of MS 69 Toned American Silver Eagles . But older coins it's always a coin toss whenever having a toner graded.
Gotta be careful with those NGC 69's that are toned. I have seen where there is a small hole drilled in the bottom of the case, where a gas is then inserted(chaging the color) and the hole is filled with epoxy. So NGC probably graded a white coin.(haven't personally seen any pcgs done like this, but I'm sure it happens!)
