That is very nice, topcat. I'll guess NGC graded it 65, no FBL. Here is mine, a 64FBL which I would like to upgrade at some point:

  4. NGC graded it an MS63 no FBL! I agree with the no FBL (at least with NGC criteria) but would easily grade it an MS65. The coin looks even better in hand and is pretty clean even under a 10x loupe. This is all part of my quest to buy low-cost, under-graded Franklins. They are out there. TC

  7. Nice Franklin. Very nice pic of the reverse. Try the same strategy with the obverse. TC

Here's my newest coin to my collection. I love this coin and the toning it has.
I should have toned it down a bit...it's picture is brighter than what it actually is.

This is still in the scratched up original Cellophane. The only mark on the coin is by B and it looks milky white in hand.

Love that coin, dwhiz. I don't know what it is about Franklin halfs, but they're coins that I really enjoy. Maybe it's because they were the "biggest" silver coins that I had any real exposure to as a kid. Dunno, I just have always really liked them.

Gorgeous coin, Physics... But that's considered FBL? Hmm... Time to reevaluate what I have been looking at in regards to Frankies.

You know it is funny, out of all the coins I've yet to acquire in any grade, the Ben Franklin Half Dollar is still one I can say I've never had the liberty of holding in hand, ever.
The Franklins can be beautiful, when toned.
A few times I wanted to buy, but just didn't know enough about them. Just like Busties and of course never owned any Stellas... :)

Ltrain - you have to remember that you are looking at photographs. Lighting is key when taking pictures of FBL Franklins, if you don't get it just right, you will see what appears to be areas of weakness. In true fact, that 49S is incredibly well struck, with fully complete lines all the way across. It is bold and crisp. Just my lighting didn't pick it up well.

Physics, just wanted to say that your set on the NGC site is absolutely, mind-bogglingly, cool. I read about 1/3 of the entries last night, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest soon!

You know what this thread needs? Some nice circulated Frankies. Yeah, FBL and MS are nice, but let's not forget about the AU sorts...

How about a 1950 proof, to liven things up a bit. (Not crazy about how the obverse photo turned out. Maybe I'd get a better picture after VERY carefully taking it out of the Air-Tite?)
