@dwhiz reminded me of my brief flirtation with "crusty" circulated Morgan and Peace dollars (Dansco #7172) from a few years back. I like a nice circulated Morgan as much as the flashy Mint State ones. More, sometimes. High relief Peace dollar. Well worn but handsome key date.
I miss it. Never got around to trying to slab it. I don't know if it would have straight graded or not, due to the little rim hit at 2:00 on the reverse. I'd say it would've had a fair chance of making the grade (literally). I'd like to find a nice affordable Carson City T$ with that look. My first Trade dollar was a '75-CC with similar appearance, but the toning/contrast wasn't quite as nice as that 1877-S, there. I think (no, I know) that that's the nicest looking Trade dollar I have owned, despite the modest grade.
@lordmarcovan I've learned to really enjoy the circulated coins. So much history, who, what, where and when. So many questions if they could only talk.
I got so caught up in admiring the delicate pastel toning on that 1883 that I failed to notice the CC mintmark at first look. Sweet!
