What a "dummy" I forgot to post my coin! Here is something way older... AV Stater ND Salamis Mint struck circa 316/18BC mint state King Nikokreon of Cyprus 330-10BC This ruler allied himself with Alexander III of Macedon/ after Alexander's death he struck coins in the image of Alexander the Great AV Staters. Less then ten known.
Here is yet another... AV Dukat 1633 K-B Kremnitz Mint/Hungary Ferdinand II Holy Roman Emperor He commanded the Imperial forces vs the invading Protestant armies in Central Europe. The Thirty Years War 1618-48 would devastate much of Europe. Obv. Emperor standing right with orb. Rev. Madonna with baby Jesus.
One of my favorite coins: Thessaly, Larissa AR Drachm, 18-20mm, 6.10 g, c. 356-342 BC. Obverse: Head of nymph Larissa facing, turned slightly left, wearing ampyx, earring and necklace. Reverse: ΛAPI/ΣAIΩN, horse to right, preparing to roll over. John
I've posted this one before, but this seems like a good place to post it again. This is uniquely beautiful not because the coin is attractive (it is really quite plain), but because of the way the reflections make it look like the devices are floating.
That is really supercool, and it does actually have a unique beauty to it, in a spare, minimalistic way. The "levitation effect" is quite striking.
So many great coins already in this thread! Keep them coming! Here's another one that I love. This is probably either my favorite or close to my favorite type of all time. The detail in the hair on the obverse is breathtaking, and the shield design on the reverse is incredibly detailed and gorgeous. I am lucky enough to own this particular coin.
ive only seen a few of them for sale. got mine a few years ago from my local shop. he had it many years in a box stashed away in the back.
