Why? Just because they get their question answered and don’t become an active member of the community doesn’t mean they didn’t learn something or benefit from CT. That’s not a waste.
However when they totally ignore reasonable advice and get their panties in a bunch over some well intended humor and storm off, what has been gained?
I think the risk is worth it. I'd rather give good advice so it's there...if they don't like it that's fine. I will just move on. I don't see the point in running people off. This is supposed to be a welcoming place.
Actually I more agree with you than not. It just reminds me of the old Russian proverb "When you live next to the cemetery you can't weep for everybody" ...although we probably should.
When/if someone wishes to ignore and/or attack the sincere and generous advice given them, instead rushing off to start another thread to ask the same question, they deserve what they get. The misinformation many of these people spew is infinitely more dangerous to this hobby than the loss of one person who was highly unlikely to ever become a beneficial part of it. Have so many really forgotten the concept of the golden rule? I cannot be the only person here who has used other non-coin forums in the hopes of having a question answered. It's really not that hard to be polite when asking and/or answering posts from people who've taken the time to respond, and regardless of if said response was what I wanted to hear. Why should what is a hobby for most be treated differently than if a profession? How many here would freely give the fruits of their trade to someone not only wholly unappreciative, but do so again and again and again?
I don't see why the assumption that we are chasing people off is being made. Clearly the OP was simply not interested in our advice. The last time he was seen is exactly the time of his final post.
Maybe not in this case...but hostile and demeaning responses to new members doesn't encourage them to stay.
