Iron is one of the relatively few metals that <i>doesn&#039;t</i> readily form an amalgam. That&#039;s why mercury is shipped in iron flasks. You can easily turn a copper cent &quot;silver&quot; with mercury, but on a steel cent I think it would just roll around.
