I'm somewhat new to coin collecting so please bare with me on this topic. I came across a 1942 D wheat penny that has a small odd shaped hole on both sides in different spots on the coin. The holes are close in size and shape. The holes do not go all the way through the coin. On the opposite side of both holes you can see a slight mushroom effect. The holes are about the diameter of a needle. The sides of the holes do not appear to be sloped inward. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Notice the flat spots on the opposite side of the indents. This is a characteristic of a coin that suffered a hit. Regardless of the cause, it's PMD as this can't happen during the minting process.
