However, there are many, many collectors that full well know about mintage quantities and are well happy with whatever they can find. </p><p>As to a coin being genuine or not. I would think a counterfeiter would never produce any coin with pits, scratches, dents, etc. Now that would really be something for someone to do making horrible looking coins.
