Aint that the truth! Between the holidays and this covid thing ( it may just be the point where i am getting old) but my friends tell me..you are not fat, you are thick! Lol
Still was very cool tho. Did u get a nice price for it. We all havr to remember that material things are fun, but its not what really counts. I lost everything I owned, literally except the clothes on my back. It gave me a different perspective. I still feel a little twang over the sentimental stuff, important paperwork & the 2 very nice collections I had. *Sigh* Alot of years and money had gone into each of them. So, I do get it. But it was still super cool, to have had it, right?
It was nice to have, but for now other coins come first. Coin priorities..yes I said it. I must get my 2 toned Canadian sets done first before I move on.
My future want list... 1972 DDO... 1983 DDR... 1995 doubled LIBERTY... and the Holy Grail even in lower grades 1955 DDO...
Not seeing it remember now. You just turned 100. Everyone’s been under a mask since you were 98 years old. You’ll burn it off this summer when your taking your honey on a WHY I LOVE YOU summer
@Kristine Garrant …I use Wexler and VV to confirm suspected doubling, incorporating co-responding die markers. If wear or damage obscures die markers it gets very difficult to confirm, the doubling would have to be identical to the examples listed and very prominent. Your coin is very worn and I don’t see any doubling, but I do see the die deterioration. I would have stopped with this coin once I compared with listed examples. It’s very possible you could discover a new variety, just not probable after 67 years. I applaud your efforts, but I get the sense from many of your posts you are making it harder than it is.
Probably so. but in my attempt to learn the right way.. i ask these questions that help me get a better grasp of nusimatics. when I see something and the example is not very definitive for newbies, I am then faced with a big huge question mark. I can only go by examples posted. They are usually worded and tailored for people with a lot more experience and knowledge than I have. and if you havent noticed..this isn't an easy subject to broach! lol.. very tedious with the many different steps and issues that go into coin collecting and the minting process. really you guys should pat yourself on the backs cuz if you were not born into a family who dealt with this kind of stuff and grew up in it, then it is difficult to discern. I might delve a little too much on something, but once again just trying to make sure i have the concept right before moving on. I dont have a teacher in the same room who can show me one thing or another or check/correct what I am assuming to be the answers about coins. yes i know that i can post on here. but its a very discombobulated way to get information, coming in at different times and from different people. then going into each person's suggestions and trying to understand the advice that they are presenting, looking up the links and terminology or examples they are presenting. so just bear with me and my need to dissect everything down to its basics even if some of the questions don't directly apply to hard core coin collecting. sometimes it just a child like curiousity running around in my head looking for insight
but a honey? lmao no. i am very much single unfortunately...i mean how did u figure I had all this time on my hands to dive into numismatics 101??
@Kristine Garrant …Well, I have to say you are experiencing what most collectors go through. We ask questions and then sort through the responses…we end up saying: “That guy knows what he is talking about and that guy doesn’t”. Learning and applying as we go. You have to understand that it just takes time to accumulate knowledge. I collected/accumulated coins from 1962 until 2011. Now, I thought because I knew US denominations back to Morgans, Flying Eagles and Barbers that I was a numismatist, because, after all, your regular citizen didn’t. I was all wrong and full of myself. I started applying numismatic precepts in 2011 when I began organizing my collected treasures, and I continued to learn when I joined Coin Talk in 2017. You will find greater depth info from books and magazines and there is a lot to read and study for all denominations so my best recommendation is to choose an area, focus and research a denomination and post here with your questions. We have all had our bubble burst but CT members will make sure you get accurate info, it’s one of our hallmarks…Spark
