Pompey Magnus in Art and coins

Carthago Does this look infected to you?

I'm currently traveling around Scandanavia with poor internet access but wanted to share some amazing pics of a bust of Pompey Magnus (The Great) that is displayed in the Ny Carlesberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Collecting ancient coins makes recognizing famous busts so easy, though Pompey is pretty easy to spot anyway with that nose and fabulous head of hair!

Feel free to pile on the Pompey's.

Wow, fabulous portraits!! I also have two portraits, one mediocre and one execrable. On the same coin.

Three Pompey's - the first two are fourree. The third has one face looking right I consider like Pompey Magnus but the left one is different. Is it Sextus Pompey who issued the coin?

That is quite a room of heads! Thanks for posting.
I like your dancing Pompey denarius.
There are lots of bronzes of Pompey and his family. I like the way the right head looks like a little boy being scolded.

No coins to post, but that's one of my favourite museums. Perfect size and beautiful design. Amazing that he managed to put the collection together at a time when a lot of the best things were already in museums, and export restrictions already limited new supplies.

A very, very close resemblance to the bust. Good to see that some engravers were creating realistic and accurate works.

Wish you saw and grabbed shots of some Viking trading weights.

..if they could only talk.. talking head.gif O man... i'd be hard pressed to leave the good company of the busts and statues in that place.. i've nary a coin of Magnus or any of his family yet, but it's not for lack of interest, but rather what to get. thanks for sharing @Carthago
