In all reality, and based on metrics and what literature is out there, there is no concrete difference between PCGS and NGC. There are trends and history on when they undergrade or overgrade. I do know this - I was at a show in Chicago overhearing two dealers complaining that many dealers would not buy their inventory unless they were slabbed by PCGS or NGC - the others grading services were being dissed.
you have lost it again. i think its the stress . my opinion is ngc is useless and pcgs is inconsistent i opt gdcs not mentioned in the choice list but only one who knows coins IMHO dont waste your money with ngc and pcgs both dont know what they are doing. buy coins already slabbed if you like them sigh
I feel the huge gap is there because NGC and PCGS are the only TPGs that grade accurately on a regular basis. Now, they are wrong at times...but generally they are pretty good. This was true for ANACS in the past but over the last few years they have gotten pretty bad. They overgrade pretty regularly these days. The only reason I even listed ANACS on my list is because at one time they graded well...and if you find one of their older slabs often times they are correctly graded. I also like them for authenticating problem key coins...because for a while they were the only company that would do it, although that's no longer the case.
Please- photos of your pattern pieces Hello $incere, Could you post photos of your pattern pieces? Very best regards, collect89

Damn, didn't think this would bring such controversy... Glad to hear the many opinions of many people, and it looks like i still cant decide between PCGS and NGC. And yea, i will post pictures or the coins as soon as i can... J-338 J-340 J-345 J-1444 J-1050 J-1310 JC-1866? (UNIQUE) Aluminum, Pewter, Or Nickel... A couple more also.... ALSO, I'm in the middle of acquiring an amazing pattern VERY UNIQUE... LETS SEE IF ANYONE CAN GUESS WITCH PATTERN IS SO UNIQUE....
Spock I never did my own subs untill a cpl years ago, then I hit them bigtime this year. I have had several overgraded coins come back from PCGS that really had me scratching my head. They market grade, and I wish they would not. At shows, I usually have a half dozen or more 09-VDB's in 65 red slabs. If the customer takes the time to listen and pay attention to the COIN, I can sell them an NGC cheaper. I can do that with most coins that I have in both TPG slabs........
p.s. my sense is that PCGS has tougher standards overall, but NGC is more consistent. I voted for PCGS.
Agree with this. From some of the large cents I also think NGC lets a few more questionable coins into slabs. I also voted for PCGS.
I know the correct answer is either PCGS or NGC, but I'm not qualified to tell you which of the two is best for your coins. So using a time-honored guessing methodology popular among multiple choice test takers, the longer answer is more often the correct one, so go with PCGS.
$incere, who do you like best? We all have a company were prefer for various reasons...but they are your coins. Both NGC and PCGS are excellent companies, send them to whichever you prefer.
