Please allow me to play Devil's Advocate for a moment...

When it comes right down to it, people are going to buy SGS slabbed coins anyway. When they attempt to sell them, they'll find out the mistake they made.

This happens every day and in every aspect of life. For instance, in 2002, I bought a new Chevrolet Silverado Z-71 truck. Many people told me not to buy the thing for various reasons: Overpriced... poor build quality... cheap parts, etc. Nevertheless, I bought it. I learned my sad mistake when the thing started falling apart. I sold it and lost quite a bit of money in the transaction.

In 2003, I bought a new Chrysler PT Cruiser... Of course, everyone told me that it was the worst thing I could have bought (again for various reasons). The PT Cruiser is the best vehicle I've owned since I was 16 years old (I'm 45 now). It's never been in the shop for any mechanical failures. I love that car.

The point I'm trying to make is this: People are going to do what they want to do. You can try to encourage them otherwise, but for the most part, you may as well be talking to a brick wall.

There's an old motto and it still holds true today: Live and learn. If people want to buy SGS coins, they will continue to do so. There's enough information available for people to research concerning SGS. If they still decide to buy, well.... let the buyer beware.

Besides, who is to say that some people aren't perfectly happy with their SGS purchases? Personally, I know what's going on with SGS and I choose not to buy from them. But, if you find a coin you like, who am I to stop you? Once you put your hand in the fire, I doubt you'll do it a second time...

I guess that I rarely buy slabbed coins from anyone so these threads are all kind of humorous to read. I would rather buy a coin and determine whether it is Slab-worthy myself and even then I don't get coins slabbed very often. I'm more of a Whitman Classics folder kind of collector but I realize that some of the coins in the folders really should be slabbed. I have learned a lot about grading services and may use that knowledge to slab coins in the future but I am content to sit back and watch the fireworks at his point. Sometimes, I even toss in a match to keep things burning.

Guess I will have to get in on this by saying that CoinOKC has made quite a few good points on the subject and these should be taken into consideration.
Now I am one of those who places all third party graders into but one catagory and have now use for any of them, so far as grading in concerned. They are all useless and over hyped, if you ask me. But then I have given up talking to brick walls many years ago. So go ahead and do as you choose, it's your money!:thumb:

I am flattered by this thread but make no mistake, I am no hero. I am just one of many coin collectors that hates fraud and will call a "spade a spade". If we can stop one person from falling into the SGS and other eBay "alphabet slabber" traps, then it makes it all worthwhile.

As I reflect about the men and woman that have fallen this Memorial Day weekend so we can speak and write freely...those people and their families are the real heroes in my book. Let's never forget of the men and woman that have kept and keep this country free.

Well said. This is exactly what I wanted to say. I voted yes, because I'm more on the "Yes, it's good to expose this junk" side, than the "Obey the rules because they're the rules" side.

You don't have to obey eBay's rules; you have to accept the penalty for not doing so.

If you do that with grace and poise, great.

Warren, when you showed up here I had high hopes that you were uninformed about the SGS situation, but you have proven to be willingly complicit in the SGS fraud. I just hope you are at least getting wealthy since you've obviously sold out any integrity that you may have once had to make a few dollars at the expense of the uninformed. I hope it turns out to be worth it at the end of your life, but I doubt it will.

You may as well say, "You don't have to obey society's rules; you have to accept the penalty for not doing so".

Using that mentality, a person could commit murder as long as he's willing to accept the penalty. But, then I suppose a lot of people behind bars (or those who have received the death penalty) have used that justification.

Wouldn't it be simpler to obey eBay's rules? If a person doesn't like eBay's rules, I encourage them to petition eBay to change them or not use the eBay service.

I did not post to this room to meet your approval or anyone elses and I did not have any expectations, other than stepping into an unfriendly environment, albeit, one that opposes the presence of SGS grades.

It is a first amendment rigth to offer an opposing viewpoint, about coins, or about anything that involves fair trade. This is not the middle ages, and it is my understanding that neither is this a forum for FASCIST thinking (i.e., kill, silence, or mame anyone that opposes you). Suggested reading: Eugene Ionesco's play, Rhinocerous.

"Fascism is commonly confused with Nazism. Nazism is a political party platform that embraces a combination of a military dictatorship, socialism and fascism. It is not a government structure. Fascism is a government structure. The most notable characteristic of a fascist country is the separation and persecution or denial of equality to a specific segment of the population based upon superficial qualities or belief systems. You and I, and everyone else are entitled to opinion. However the choice of terminology in your post is regarded as obloquy.

There are a substantial number of people on both sides of the coin. Those who have purchased from my store have positive things to say. This is an immutable fact that you cannot change.

To make attempts to limit competition to any market is contrary to the entire concept of free markets.

On a comparative basis, next time you fuel up, keep in mind that it is a free market that has also moved gas prices to $3.41 (in my local area). My customers are one segment of the market. Your customers are another segment of the market. Accept it, because that is the way free markets operate.

At the end of the day, I will offer what is popular and what people are buying, be it coins, or guitars, or books.

    Facts

I think the fact remains that the accepted deffinition of an MS/PR70 coin is absolute perfection with a strong strike. A very tiny percentage of all coins minted. It is also clear that sgs 70 graded coins are NOT. sgs is trying to decieve the buying public. End of story.:loud:

Are you trying to say that any part of your incoherent ramblings was in any way a reasonable response to my post?! You refuse to answer the legitimate issues that have been raised and you continue to rant about fascism, anti-competetive practices, and our unfriendly forum, but the bottom line is that you simply don't get it. You have intentionally chosen to act in an unethical manner, which is certainly within your rights, but don't act surprised when the rest of the numismatic community looks on you with disdain.
