So maybe the high prices are deterring the flippers.

More like max profit for the mint, they couldn't care less after they get their money. That pricing does make you think about waiting for the after market fall though, that's 30 higher than kurt lectured us for weeks that it would be

The mint must have figured out that only the suckers who have to have this coin will bite, so they can gouge them a little. Maybe that will keep sales lower than 125,000, but still not low enough to be a winner - there's too many suckers out there.

The big boys are gonna make their money either way, it's really the consumer and small sellers that end up getting burned when the products can't hold their issue price. Will this one hold it's price, I don't know for sure but it doesn't look like it with that premium already

I'm guessing $205 for the round and that purty little box.

They might sell 75,000 the first week.

$175 was looking alot more attractive but this is not a surprise.
There was a thread over at CU that I thought was fairly interesting. Instead of looking at mintage figures they looked strictly at the amount of gold that was sold in past issues. Which this offering is much less gold overall for sale compared to other recent issues that sold well. Lending itself to be a possible one day sell out fairly easily. Fwiw.

    LOL!

So, assuming current gold prices, 5 Mercs would cost $1025, and 1 Walker would cost $865, or $160 less.

Assuming a more or less constant premium over melt for the gold content, I can interpret that to mean that they're valuing the packaging at $40 per coin.

I'm often willing to speculate on coins, but I'm reluctant to throw that much money after boxes. I'm leaning back toward "certainly not the max, maybe not any." And if it does sell out quickly and aftermarket prices start to spike, I might be a little sad about missing out on an easy buck, but mostly I'll be shaking my head and laughing at the participants.

There's an eBay pre-sale for $239 with $10 shipping. After fees and not even calculating in the shipping coming to you, that leaves $15 to ship and insure it to the buyer. The remainder is the profit. I bet those prices start disappearing quickly.

Actual sales have been around $300. Buy it nows now a little less than that. Much cheaper and it won't be worth a flip.

I was expecting it to be a little over the 1/10 proof Eagle, so somewhere around $190. I'm still down for one :p

I am going to say they will sell them all. A read through the Mint's social media on other popular gold coin launches shows a lot of complaints about the lack of lower priced gold products, 1/10 eagles is it... traditionally, the next smallest non-eagle gold coins are "$5" whatevers which usually end up in the discount bin at APMEX...

I actually like APMEX setup, just not sure if they will buy like they say they do if the price for gold went to 5K an ounce. The premium on their coins are a decent % to pay for a coin that you can easily flip. Sometime EASY is all I want for a decent price, no haggle, no upsales, no customer rewards card, % for sign up, etc. i am so sick of that stuff. Bass Pro shop is the worst. I buy something with a gift card and take it back, they give me another card to fatten my wallet. I dont want another one or all the BS they want me to have. How about lower your prices and shutting down the 10,000 gallon fish tank I pay to feed... World is going bonkers...

When you look at the link for the GOLD prices they have listed on all 3 coins, it shows as if we stole the high relief this past year. The price of Gold then was close today's price, thus based on their new GOLD price chart we would pay 1800.00 for that relief coin today...

I was trying to imply that the US Mint's smallest gold coins that aren't Eagles are typically unpopular. Current $5 commemorative are about $400 each from the Mint but past coins can be had for about $100 less from dealers that are dumping them as bullion.

Smaller gold coins with lower prices are not common from the US Mint. This particular one is not tied to a commemorative subject and is more general in nature, so it should appeal to more people and do well.

On Day 1 @ 10am (Colorado time), I'm in for two. Nice bookends for my Mercury dime collection.

But I'm disappointed with the prices... feels like gouging.
