In pocket change, the oldest coin I've ever seen was a 1967 quarter. And most cashiers don't have half dollars. So no junk silver pretty much.

Even local banks totally run out of half dollars. Do nutty coin guys just gobble them all up when these places received them?? :jimlad:

I'll pop into a bank branch if it's not too busy and ask about half dollars. At least 2/3 of the banks in my area don't carry half dollars at all. Of course, every once in awhile I come away with multiple silvers out of just a few dollars worth.

I've gotten really lucky with my change. I've found a 1964 quarter while working as a cashier at school. One Silver nickel and once I got a Proof Colorado State quarter in my change at walmart (not so proof anymore)

Today I got a 1960-D Jefferson Nickel at USPS (almost UNC). So far this is the most exciting find, which isn't much. Worth maybe 75-80 cents. This does give me more hope though. I'll try not to use my debit card too much more ;)

if i see halves in a cash register drawer i always ask to buy them, but that doesn't happen to often here in KC. Out where my grandparents live in rural southern Missouri, the only credit union in town orders them and distributes them to customers just like any other coin so they're all over the place there.
