I sometimes wonder what cashiers there have seen over a career. I'm sure that many collections have gone the way of the casino. I completed a review of the balance of pocket change I accumulated over the last few months of 2022. I will post some photos of the better finds with this latest batch. A few DDRs that I recall, nickels and dimes mostly.
It’s been a busy start to 2023, but here is a dime from the 2022 pocket change hunts. I found 6DDRs but this was the best one -
More interesting finds in the pocket change today. Not quite 50 years old, but still looking pretty fresh.
To increase the likelihood of finding something in my pocket change, I try to make frequent small purchases to generate opportunities. I have noticed that since the pandemic began, and where there were particular shortages in change, folks would round up and down frequently reducing the number of cents I could 'harvest' from the wild. Cents have always been particularly productive in past CRH events, so the same is true of pocket find cents. But what I have noticed is that I've been getting quite a bit of my change in dimes. 7 dimes and a nickel for $0.73 expected. So fewer quarters and nickels too. There are a number of smaller DDO/DDR opportunities with dimes, but nothing overly interesting or valuable (to the right collector). Anyway, I'm hoping that others are having better luck at working the change-game when it comes to cents and nickels. These denominations tend to be the most productive. Looking forward to see the successes of others! Good luck!
I was catching star notes in pairs several months ago, then a long drought. Then a trip through the DD drive thru yielded a pair in my change. I was wondering if these had been set aside by someone as a result. So yesterday I was running errands and although not received together in change, I caught a couple. PS - had to check...seems I last caught a star note back in December.
Congratulations to @SensibleSal66 - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/scored-on-the-wheatbacks-this-week.404945/ Nice pocket change finds!! Keep them coming!
I recently finished searching a $1k bag of quarters purchased from my local bank. The contents contained accumulated quarters from an owner of a local laundromat. I was hoping for a some silver and West Point finds but sadly no such luck. The best I can brag about was a 2009-P NMI, 2011-P from MS, MT, & WA, and 2012-P&D PR and P ME.
I’ve always wondered if those operators of laundromats had great silver collections. I once got a few dollars in change from a change maker and landed a few silver quarters. I shoveled more bills into the machine without success. I got there late or maybe just perfectly. My change pot is full so I need to do the review to see what is in it. That could happen this weekend.
About 50 pounds, by my figuring. It would be closer to 55 if they were all silver. I'd find a way to lift the extra 5 pounds if someone offered me the choice.
I highly suspect the laundromat owner performed a good old fashioned cherry-pick before the deposit. Maybe I will try one more purchase before acknowledging this fact.
Two trips and thank them twice. Guessing half dollars are twice as bad. Anyone know the heaviest case of coins is. I guess nickels???
