Hi, I've recently started a numismatic internship and I'm trying to freshen/strengthen my grading skills. If you have any graded Aussie or British (or similar) coins I'd love to see them to practice with. I know images on a computer aren't the same as the real deal but anything will help. Thanks for any help! I'll start. Pf 65
There’s a bunch on eBay where you can use the pics for comparisons. Some are obviously much better pics than others but it is a good resource
Okay, I'll put in a couple: (NGC MS-64, formerly ANACS MS-63, small white slab) (this one has been both an NGC MS-63 and a PCGS MS-63, found where it had sold in one slab and bought it in the other). 1902 MS-64 RB (older no prong holder)
Here is a very scarce 1862 Sydney mint sovereign. Population - 9 in MS62, none higher at NGC or PCGS. These had a softer strike than most sovereigns, maybe due to the fact that they were struck from Aussie gold.....remember the problem with the 1859 Ansells (they had to add an extra band in Victoria's hairband to prevent the coins from breaking/degrading as the gold was softer 1862 Sydney Sov MS2
OK I'll try to post a wider range of grades for you to try and practice and spot the subtle difference....of course I'm doing this purely as an educational exercise and am in no way using this opportunity to show off my coins....hahahaha Aus 1859 Sydney half sov Fine details (hard to find in ANY grade)
1902 London 5 sovereign AU50 Out of an initial mintage of 35,000 only 8,000 survived. So a difficult quintuple sovereign to get in any grade. Some contact marks from circulation.
1831 William IIII MS61 And for comparison....the same coin with nice toning and MS62 I think the wear on the high points of the King's hair is the most obvious difference.....
