First of all let me please say I read this forum at least twice daily and I have learned so much in the past 6 months. Thanks to all. I also apologize for getting intoxicated and making unrealistic predictions concerning gold that never came true although I am still very bullish. Check out this coin I bought. I am thinking I bought the slab grade and not the coin. I will let you know what grade it is later on. Of all of the Pre-1933 gold coins I have bought (6) I feel this one I may have like I said bought the slab and not the coin. Thanks for letting me post again.
Thanks its MS-63 from PCGS. Paid a small fortune for it from one of the top Coin dealers in the country. Cant name may get sued
Wow!?! The face looks worn, as well as other features and they still graded it MS? Also there are some blemishes as well. Maybe it is the slab. Oh well, I guess I will not try to grade golds anymore.
You should have waited for a little while to post the actual grade Anyway, it looks to me like there is slight rub on the obverse. That may just be the picture and it is much more difficult to get a good picture of a slabbed coin. From the pictures, I would have said AU55.
I was trying to decide between either MS64 or AU58 before I saw the posted graded. For me, the hardest grades to tell apart are high grade circulated vs MS whatever. I think it is uncirculated. The fields show no signs of breaks in the luster and the chest area of Lady Liberty shows typical bag marks. I'm curious if you bought it sight unseen or if it was one you picked out. This would be the type of coin I would only buy "sight seen" or with VERY good scans.
Thanks for the reply. I bought it online so I was able to view it. I am so excited that you have some positive new here. First you see the fields show no signs of breaks in the luster and the chest area Also those bag marks do not take away from the coin because it can still be uncirculated right? Thanks again for the info.
The bag marks do not detract from the coin as being an MS coin. From the pictures, I thought the rub on the obverse was wear; apparently it was bag rub which does not make the coin AU. Also, it is hard to grade (gold especially) from a pic. I prefer to see gold coins in hand to grade them.
Well folks I gotta tell ya - I don't think I'd grade that coin as MS. Even if the pics are bad - it appears to have wear. Now I know a lot of folks put a lot of faith the grading companies - in particular PCGS. But just this weekend I saw a 1907 St. Gaudens slabbed by PCGS as MS62 that had - Cleaned & Ex- Jewelry - right on the slab. That kinda says it all in my opinion
Geeeeez Jody - I thought for sure you'd faint dead away after hearing me say that And here ya actually managed to come up with THAT You been takin lessons from Roy again ?
what are ms69 05 eagles going for, some guy on ebay selling for 21 usd each, there at the graders giving when he gets them back.ngc?
Back to the original question, if I was offered it and interested, I wouldn't buy it due to obverse problems.
