Hello, I've had this coin for over 30 years but I have no idea what it is and how much value it may have. I would appreciate you help.
Thirty years would be about my guess for the age of this modern piece. The legend reads Paris and the helmet suggests a modern idea of the Trojan War which happened centuries before the invention of coinage. I suspect this was originally part of a larger whole - perhaps a charm bracelet???
Thank you for the information dougsmith. You may be right that is part of a larger whole but it is not thirty years in age. It is a heavy and sturdy piece of metal and the way it has worn suggests that is centuries old.
That metal does not look like wear it look like weak cast details. I am 1000% certain this is not ancient, and 1000% it is as modern as the sky is blue. For whatever its worth.
I know pretty much nothing about ancients, but the way the coin looks does not strike me as being ancient. It may not be what you want to hear, I would think it is modern as well...
No Cents Doug Smith maybe right I know my grandmothers had a belt made of ones like this. Set in white metal.. It was a hand me down to her too! Art Deco 1904-1924 there was a lot of metal made for anything... My2c
Wear can easily be faked. This isn't really fake as it was not meant to fool anyone, but rather a fantasy piece of the 20th century IMO.
That's my strategy. Laugh if you will, but one day I'm going to post my collection of aureii and you're all going to be green with envy. GREEN I tell you!!!
Yeah, that's the truth. I've seen people waste entire paychecks on tickets. I only buy a powerball ticket once in a while - when the prize gets over 30 million or so. Don't bother me with chump change.
I buy only when its crazy high. I also only buy 1 ticket. I had to explain to a friend of mine who buys $80-$100 tickets that he is not improving his odds very much. He said, "If I buy 2 then my odds are 2 in 1,000,000,000." I said," no your odds are 1 in 999,999,999." We got a laugh out of it, had he won though the joke would have been on me for sure. I wouldn't be getting Gold Romans I would be covered in Gold Carthaginian staters and the multiples of.
I know gambling can be an addiction, but it just isn't my cup of tea. The one time I ever set foot in a casino I lost $500, and I was so steaming mad at myself I never went back. I'm 50-years-old and I've only been to a casino once in my entire life.
I live in CT so I am an hour away from a casino no matter where I am in the state. I have been 3 times. First time I won $50 on black Jack, Second time I lost $100 on the cruise ship, and the last time I went I was up $250 on craps and gave it all back to slots. How I wish I had bought a tetradrachm.
Some of the folks in my office get together on lottery tickets once every few months. I always throw in, not because I entertain the remotest hope of winning, but because I shudder to think what would happen if they actually won and I hadn't participated. At least I've been able to convince them that extra tickets doesn't improve their odds!
At least you broke even. A lawyer friend of mine ruined his life with gambling. By the time he was done, he was half-a-million in debt, lost his house, wife, and children. I do believe it can be as strong an addiction as any mood-altering chemical, because I've seen it with my own eyes.
