I recently came across what looks like some type of coin planchet for an 1853-O Seated Liberty Quarter with the initials F.F. on it. Thoughts.
It didn't happen at the mint, whatever it is. It looks like it was punched from the reverse with something sort of six-sided and the resulting "post" on the obverse was mounted to something. Or perhaps punched directly into something as a rivet. Speculation is free but we'll probably never know exactly what or how.
Definitely damaged after it left the mint. Also counter stamped EF and the coin has received lots of wear. Probably a button as stated.
I'm comparing the image on the obverse and reverse sides to an actual 1853-O Seated Liberty Quarter coin that I have, with the only difference being the size and dimension and the E.F. initials on it. No big deal, I was just curious. Thanks for your response.
