<p>[QUOTE=&quot;Larry Moran, post: 1023550, member: 4580&quot;]<b>I received my VA Medal today&nbsp; : )</b></p><p><br /></p><p>I did this with Photoshop.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>I received my VA medal today and photographed it right away. </p><p>The even more special part is that I laid out its design on my computer. : ) </p><p><br /></p><p>The medal is the result of a coin design contest held by a VA Regional Office.</p><p>An employee there, a friend of mine and an illustrator, sketched some designs </p><p>and asked me to put them on the computer and lay them out as a coin design, </p><p>so she could submit a professional-looking design. </p><p><br /></p><p>For the reverse she had drawn a sketch with two VA personnel, one also a soldier </p><p>now on active duty in Iraq, the other a lady veteran who also works at their VARO. </p><p><br /></p><p>My friend Moonshadow, another Conder Token collector and a member of Coin Talk,</p><p>won the contest. We split a nice cash prize.</p><p><br /></p><p>Later, VA management requested that she revise the center of the reverse design</p><p>to eliminate the employees, who were recognizable. The obverse remained as submitted. </p><p><br /></p><p>The quote on the reverse was uttered by Abraham Lincoln. </p><p>It&#039;s now part of the VA mission statement.</p><p><br /></p><p>After engraving and striking, and addition of some finishing processes, </p><p>they presented these medals to recognized employees in a meeting.</p><p>My friend asked if she might have one for me, and explained why. </p><p>They gave her this medal for me.
