I've been trying to photograph the edge of coins with doubling and repeating edge lettering without much luck. I've been told to use a flashlight reflector, but the current ones or really low quality plastic. Someone also suggested a concave mirror, but there are a LOT of sizes and I haven't been able to get more information.

The following picture was on the NGC site, but I've been unable to find out anything.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

When I first read about it I looked in second hand shops, garage/yard sales etc. for an old flashlight. Not the best reflector and a quick snap with a phone just to give you an idea. With a camera set-up and decent lighting you can get a very accurate image of the edge. The key is that the coin must touch the reflector so don't get one with a reflector that has a large diameter

I bought a couple a while ago. Let me look them up. They are metal and cheap.

I always check thrift shops for flashlights to get the reflectors.
They seem to work out well. Ike clad os A.jpg

I made a little contraption to lift the coin off the reflector slightly. I'll see if I can find photos.
