Hello everyone, I have again made a purchase of a wonderful coin on eBay a 1904 MS-63 RB IHC! My only slabbed coin I have a (1897 F-12 1 in neck IHC) is photo sealed. Should I let Rick Snow examine my coin and make a photo seal for it or is it better just leaving it like it is right now? Thanks and sorry for giving everyone a hard time with dumb questions. Dan
First, I don't even know what a Photo Seal is. But I'm guessing it's something like what NGC does for GSA Morgans. Second, I suspect it would cost about what the coin is worth to have a Photo Seal done. IMO not worth it. If you want to know the Snow variety take some REALLY good pictures and post them in here. I'm sure there's several of us that have the book.
Photo Seal is Rick Snow's stamp of approval of a slabbed FE or IHC coin's grade. What is Photo Seal? $15.00 each
And I believe he only photoseals coins that have already been slabbed by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. I'm not sure about the ANACS.
Common date. Common mint-state grade. I wouldn't submit it, but, that's just me. You have any photos? -Brian
Pretty dark photos you've got there... Honestly, I can't even see the outline of the bust. Forget sending it out to Rick Snow for a sticker and attribution.... Have Todd (blu62vette) image that puppy for ya. -Brian
Nice pickup. I personally would not send a coin to have it photo sealed - not that his opinion is not a good one. Just $15 on top of the price of, as mentioned, common date coin might not be worth. Still - that is a good start to an IHC collection.
Thanks for your advice, and to be honest with you the coin is actually an upgrade for my Dansco the one in the Dansco is a VG
Rick Snow knows his stuff when it come to IHC's. He's the Numismatist of the Year in addition to that. His Photo Seal service is an equivilent to the CAC verification. I'd give him a call to see if he feels this coin warrants the cost. I sent this coin to him to verify for me:
I've seen this coin before... I just can't put my finger on where that was. Did you get this through Charmy (ThePennyLady)? That may be where... I'm just curious. It's certainly an eye-catching piece! :hail: -Brian
Yea I think Rick Snow's Eagle Eye is good but not for every coin. As far as I know he only does copper but IHC's are the specialty. He started in CWT's though I hear. If you have high grade or key date's then it's a good idea to use him. He was doing this before CAC and it's pretty much like that except he specializes in copper. btw that 1897 PF is niccceee.
