    For me #3 is best, perhaps because it seems the lightest/brightest. All are good and if the exposure of #1 and #2 were adjusted to make them a tiny bit brighter, they'd be as good. #4 is good too, but the shadow of the nose and chin are less pleasing than #3.

    => #2 and #3 are tied in my eyes ... tied-eyes? (tie-dyes?)

    I like the photos in ascending order starting from #1. The reasons are because while #1 may be the darkest of the 4, the light seems to be evenly distributed and not blotting out any detail that you can't see as good in say example #4.

    #3 is definitely my favorite, with light fully and consistently illuminating the portrait. #4 is too unevenly lit in my eyes, a bit heavy from the bottom right up to the top left.

    #3 second

    details seem to "pop" best on them. i enjoy uneven lighting, i guess im in the minority here. but it gives the image some 3d feel, reminds me of the way a coin catches light as you it move it around in your hand.

    I tried a few other coins and learned a bit. For example I discovered that the ring light really did a poor job with the two sand patina coins I tried but super shiny coins did better with more of the ring (light 4). The above bronze has a glossy surface and a lot of fine detail that looks a lot different depending on the light choice. Here, again, I prefer #3. I did not expect to find a magic answer for all coins but did find most coins I tried looked better with a mix of the two lights except for the sand patina coins. This thread also pointed out that there is enough difference in opinions that I'll just have to shoot photos my way and not worry that some will not like them. Thanks to all who participated.

    I prefer photo #3 as displayed on my laptop. I'll see if I agree with my choice tomorrow on my office computer.

    interesting, for this coin i like the lighting used on 1 and 2, and don't like 3 and 4 as much....exactly the opposite of the first coin.

    Same here. I like 1&2 but not 3&4. The detail looks too flat on coin 4.

    I like #3 ... #4 is a bit much and #1 and #2 don't have quite enough contrast to show-off your baby

    I've now viewed both coins on my laptop & desktop computers. I like the #3 images best. To be candid, I don't understand how anyone could have a differing opinion as to which is the best image. Obviously #3 is the best!:D Oh that's right, it's an opinion.
