Morgan, I can give you these stats if you still need them. Let me know which coins. I have the Basso book.
Here's mine that I have along w/ my 1909 U.S. Mint Set... I view these as U.S. coins that should be included since the Philippines were U.S. territory at the time, the coins say United States of America on them and they were minted in San Francisco. The pics aren't the best, need to take my own photos of this one... PCGS AU58: Would love to find a nice MS 1909-S Centavo
very nice 0.78 oz silver peso. yes, they should included in the territorial quarter. or make a special half dollar commemorate it. using gen. macarthur on the obverse and the reverse same with that of 1903s peso.
Philippine coins issued under the United States are American coins The "Red Book" says so. The "Red Book" is A Guide Book of United States Coins, published by Whitman Publishing Company. Here is my 1903 peso with Chinese chopmarks:
Nice avatar pic you got there elaine Here's a better pic of this one: And a separate shot of the reverse of someone wants to update their avatar
1904 One US/Philippines Silver Peso I think I read a while back the earlier dated US silver Peso's were larger or heavier.Does anyone know anything about what the years were ?
1903-1906 - these were the heavier ones as they were consisting of 90% silver content per peso. 1907-to years before WW2 - only 80% silver content per peso. during the change of the silver content, the reason was due to the price of silver going up. that is why the 1906 peso is highly priced, this series still had a low production and was suddenly recalled along with the existing pesos and centavos in circulation for re-mint. voila! you have the 1907 peso with less silver content. this also explains why the 1903-1905 coins (most of them) at this time don't have high prices because they were issued in a very large volumes - 1906 peso on the other hand was made to fill in as additional circulation on top of the existing ones making it scarce.
I have the 10 centavos 1944 1909 peso with about 6 chopmarks?? Not much value but I love it's history
so mine being a 1904 has a (90% silver content) ,I'll have to look for the 1906 ! Thanks for the information, and history of these beautiful coins.
Benveniste, nice 1903 half centavo. Are you willing to sell it? Will by it for the right price. On a budget.
@connor1 - yes 1904 peso coins are 90% silver =) just be careful when buying 1906 peso coins as there are counterfeits circulating. i myself don't have one yet (being here in manila and all.. tough luck)
