no wonder the philippine government step up to check all outgoing lugggage to some foreign countries. one peso coin is equivalent to an american nickel except it is 22% heavier. 6.1 gram to 5.0 gram. now that nickel jumped so much in price. a one peso coin now worth over $4.00 each.

The Philippine pesos made up till 2003 are now worth around 3.5 pesos in metal content (an alloy of 75% copper/25% nickel). But 3.5 pesos converts to about 7 U.S. cents, not 4USD. Still worthwhile for large smuggling operations, though.

4USD??? That's silver you are talking about.

Peso and USD are two different currency units you know.

sorry, i mean four pesos. and people can use it in south korea as 100 won or 5.50 peso. and in japan as 100 yen or 45.00 peso. what a big profit. no wonder each time the philippines consfiticated millions of pieces for that denomination.
