Got this in the mail today. Bought it for the toning on the obverse and the way it makes the portrait details stand out. It is the 1st of 2 coins I was waiting for this week. Hopefully the second one will be here tomorrow. My 1st coin of Philip the Arab Philip I (The Arab) Reigned from 244-249 AD AR Antoninianus. RIC 28C SEAR 8922 Obverse: IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right Reverse: ANNONA AVGG Annona standing left holding corn ears over modius and cornucopiae. Annona, on the reverse, is the personification of the city of Rome's grain supply in ancient times. Hence the corn she is holding. This coin was minted as a propaganda piece to reassure the citizens of Rome that their grain supply was safe. Even though there were riots occurring in Egypt at the time due to increasing taxes. So my collection is going to end up with no real theme. It seems like I am leaning towards an eclectic mix with decent portraits. Thanks for looking...Mont
Nice toning on that one! I love the mid-third-century, numismatically. Here's a Philip from my collection with a Felicitas-with-a-Princess-Leia-hairdo reverse: Philip I The Arab, AD 244-249 Roman AR antoninianus 3.8g, 23mm, 12h Rome mint, AD 248 Obv.: IMP PHILIPPVS AVG; Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right, from behind Rev.: P M TR P IIII COS II PP; Felicitas standing left, long caduceus in right hand, cornucopia in left Refs: RIC 5; Cohen 137; RCV 8946 var. (obv. legend).

Here's a little group shot. We have (from the top) Gordon's III, who was usurped by his General Philip I who is represented with 3 coins in the next row. Next we have Philip's wife, Otacilia Severa and their son, Phillip II.
