That is a very foolish assertion of yours. I do not want it changed because I want change. I want the collector versions to have a more artistic and historical feel to it, not just some mere special collector version of some bullion coin. I want the collector coins to be made apart from the bullion designs. I want the collector coins to be something that is artistic and historical, not something that is utilitarian like the bullion coins. The bullion coins are intended for investors who do not care about the historical feel and artistry of a coin. But as a collector I care about the historical feel and artistry the coins have the potential to carry.

Well alrighty then! It's about time you came out and simply said that this is what "you" want.

    Good Luck.

That is the impression I got from your posts.

One time commemorative coins can offer an "artistic and historical feel". I personally like the option to have the same coin in BU, BU + presentation mint packaging, and proof, but I could go either way. However, if we are going to have a new design for the collectibles and proofs, I would like the design to be just that: A new design.

Well that's why I liked VCC's idea. It was a good idea, but it wasn't put out the right way. That's why I wanted to take the classic coin parts to his petition and run with it.

If I did a petition for a new design, I told you before that there's a chance that the mint might make a real flop of a design which would make me regret my petition in the first place. You can't go wrong with tried, true, and tested concepts that have been proven over and over again to be loved.

If they did make a real flop of a design after my petition, then I'll really be hated for that.

Try to keep in mind that it isn't all about you. Just sayin...

Which would be a worse flop? Reissuing a flop of a design that a lot of people love, or issuing a new flop that nobody is attached to. Take the Washington Quarter and the Jefferson Nickel for examples. People who love the early examples of these typically hate the current ones. What if the US Mint did something similar to the coins you're proposing. Then you'd "really be hated for that." ;)

If they were proven to be "loved" over and over again, then why were they discontinued?

    Oh that's right.

    For change............

I know this isn't all about me, I wouldn't have made the decision to start a petition if I didn't know that I'd have at least some support. I'm proposing exact reproductions of the original classic coins, with no major deviations from the original designs. The Washington Quarter and Jefferson Nickel was redesigned during the late 1990s and 2000s. That type of a modification is NOT being proposed here. Read the petition again.

If a flop is issued which no one is attached to, then the US Mint would lose a lot of money in sales because people won't buy it.

Well for the Mercury Dime, Roosevelt passed away and the dime was chosen because of his association with the March of Dimes; for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the mint director admired Ben Franklin and wanted him on a coin, only for Franklin to get booted from the coin eventually with the Kennedy assassination, plus the Walking Liberty Half Dollar had striking problems; the Buffalo Nickel had striking problems.

The gold pieces, they were discontinued because of FDR's gold executive order and because of the Great Depression.

    Not just "for change"

No, just different kind of modifications that everybody will LOVE!

...and what if the US Mint decided to use its "broad authority" to take your proposal and do with it as they see fit, as in change the design as they changed the designs of the quarters and nickels?

The point is, either way could be a marketing flop for the Mint, and a flop is a flop and would result in lost sales.

If they took my petition and did as they saw fit, that would clearly be against the spirit of the petition considering that the petition spells out clearly what is wanted from the mint.

Actually the Mercury and Walking Liberty half WERE redesigned for "change" they had reached their 25 year points and it was already in the planing to change them, but there was this thing called WWII going on so they thought they would delay for awhile. (The mint was under the mistaken impression at the time that the Act of 1890 REQUIRED the designs to be changed every 25 years instead of merely permitting it.) Roosevelt's death gave them the perfect excuse and design idea for the dime, and the half dollar had to wait until the war was over and things were returning to normal. I'm not sure why they chose Franklin other than he was a founding father. Possibly they had been thinking about it back in 1940 which would have been the 150th anniversary of his death.
