Thank you, I look up that guy from Torrington. I knew .2 cents a penny was not fare if I could get around 4.00 a roll give or take is that sound fare?
OMG I can't even believe I am trying to learn about pennies, I never ask him even though he tried to tell me. There is a show in New Haven CT on the 19 the also I have to go there also.
Again thank you all for your kind words and help..

Years ago I was getting $1.50 per roll selling my rolls to some dealers.
Those were the common junky coins. So 2 cents each is not fair.
If you have some marked 1909 VDB or RD you do not want to sell them without getting an appraisal. There is a coin show in East Hartford Feb. 23rd at the Ramada Hotel,
    363 Roberts St.

Thank you, another coin dealer from Brookfield also offered me 2 cents.
    I have 1916'1919,1919s, 1919d ,1920 21,23,24,25,26,27,28,29 .
1910,1911,1913,1918,1917, there probably are more but is hard to pick up the boxes.

I wouldn't take 2 cents each for those you mentioned. Right now the dealers I know are up in Manchester, New Hampshire at a coin show.
What's important is the condition of your coins. And any dated 1909 have value.

Let me just play Devil's Advocate and realist here for a moment.

Truly, as one who does his full-time, an offer of two-to three cents each for an enormous pile of circulated, primarily late date Wheat cents is not outrageously low. In fact, it might be downright fair. It is true that you may have hidden jewels in there, but I would imagine your husband would have taken these out and placed them in individual holders if there were such coins. After all, this is not an unsearched lot of found coins, but a group of coins from a collector. Additionally, what is your time and effort worth? Do you want to invest what may turn out to be significant time to net a few dollars extra worth of coins or would you like to move the rolls so as to free up your time and money for other things?

You may not mind bringing coins with you to dealers or shows and might do better financially with doing more homework an legwork, but it isn't for everybody and you know best your desires and needs.

    Your right!!
I like some one to come here make an offer and take them away. I am starting to dislike pennies!!
I came to this site to hear what professional collectors had to say, and I thank you all for your time and input.
I wish I payed more attention to my husbands passion, but I didn't lesson learned...
I will try to find someone to come here and hopefully buy them..

I'm not a big bulk or roll guy, but I would think 145 $25. boxes are alot for a single collector even if at only .02 each. Alot to move and alot to go thru. I would also agree that if your husbnd had sorted them, and key pennies have been removed from the rolls/bags. There might be still some nice coins in there, but I think unless your willing to spend the time to sort them further, I would take the best offer if your looking to move them fast. Ebay gets costly with fee's and boxing and shipping will eat away at any profits you would make over local's buying them.

OK, if we take OP at face value "wheat pennies from 1900 to 1950s and up ,some boxes are uncirculated." Uncirculated is priceless I want all those boxes. And the ones from before 1909 and up from the 50's rare as hens teeth. Mam, where do you live I'll be right over :)

I think they key pennies are with all the others, that's why the 1931 was in the box with the others. He like to collect pennies..

  14. Maybe someone on CT should make her a reasonable offer through PM. They are already sorted into rolls and in boxes. Even 3 or 4 cents would beat the low ball dealer offer. Could be worth the risk for someone willing to take it.

I been going through these pennies and moving them to an open area.
I did find 1909 thanks for the heads up.
Can I ask what some things he wrote on the boxes mean?
    OMB
    LLC
    Solids
    D Mint
    He has 1973 BU
    2009 DLPL
    What does a P mean
Last UNC which means uncirculated correct? Are they worth more?
    Thanks Cindy

P is probably the Philadelphia mint, D is the Denver mint.
BU is brilliant uncirculated. UNC is uncirculated. Both are worth more.
All 1909 cents are worth more. They made 4 different coins in 1909 for circulation.
Actually you should really do a bit more research before selling.
Members here have given you links such as numismedia.

I did use that link and I have a red US coin book.
What's messing me up are the BU and UNC? I am not finding info on them and don't know what they would go for. The boxes have never been opened.

I know it can get confusing. With unopened boxes UNC and BU are about the same thing. In other words he probably bought the boxes from a bank and the coins were never circulated. So if that's true [never opened box of all the same date] then they are called MS [mint state] in the Redbook or other price guides.
In my opinion, to get an idea of the value on numismedia you would click on MS-61 to MS-70 up on the top once you are on the page for Lincoln cents. This would be for the newer unopened boxes.
In the Redbook you would look under the column for MS-60 and that would be the minimum price for that coin. This would apply to the newer coins say from 1983 and newer.
There is alot to learn, like the 4 different types of 1909 cents. Chances are what he left in rolls was the no VDB 1909 common ones. Rolls of 1909 VDB are worth quite a bit and people do leave them in rolls too. The Redbook should show you where the VDB is located on the reverse side of the 1909 cent.
