It was minted between 1959 and 1968 It is damaged It can be kept for the copper if you like It is not a SMS or proof It is a business strike
Ok,thanks to those who have honestly replied,I really thought it would be easy to just name 5 facts about a penny....but for some it seems like a hard task. There is no smoke and mirrors, no tricks or anything of the sort, just a fun way to go about diagnosing this coin without predetermined knowledge of the date. I was looking for a specific answer honestly, and I dont see it. @alurid nailed the date ,and I'm convinced they are a savant. Lol. Anyways...this is a 1968D...I was hoping someone would say it was a proof coin. Why? The fields and devices honestly looked proof-like to me when I came across it...super shiny/glossy looking even tho it has obviously seen better days. But..it was a D..so...I thought maybe it was hit with a clear coat or something.... Call me crazy, but I'm entertaining the possibility of a 1960d being struck on a proof coin....and heres why...... Is this not an S? I realize the coin has corrosion in this area, and it may just be dmg....but...is it not convincing? Again...i may be crazy ,but im not embarassed to be wrong. Ya dont know if ya dont ask,and ive seen alot more farfetched coins than this from the mint... With that being said...lay it on me
"@alurid nailed the date ,and I'm convinced they are a savant. Lol." No. I got to the party late, but you just have to know the years. I said 1959-68 because it clearly had the RDV-001 based solely on the FG placement and size. But I did not want to research to narrow it down further and maybe @alurid actually has more markers memorized whereas I don't.
Yes. Or at least left it on the bus - call the depot, maybe somebody turned it in and you can give it it's medication on time.
You are getting close to getting put on my ignore list! Just ask what you need to ask and nothing else. Very simple. And no that is not an S Mint Mark.. It is Paredolia!
Eh,i just tried to make it interesting. Alot of ppl automatically get shut down when they think theyve found something, dismissing any possibility according to foreknowledge of the coin. If we only went by that then there wouldnt be any new discoverys. The finish of the coin is what had me thinking it was a proof, then my dad pointed out the S looking corrosion,I had to ask. Atleast I didnt say it was struck 12 times on a foreign planchet, rotated, doubled again ,then struck thru bacon grease. I was in the realm of possibility. It's like the arrow in FedEx,I cant unsee it
