Okay... after looking at the linked swill, I'll bite. Please tell us all about these "BAD" TPGs that even you wouldn't recommend to someone with money in-hand. I'd rather not say "bad" grading services as grading is subjective however I personally would rather go elsewhere than seek out these grading services for grading opinions, to slab or both: PCI, SGS, NCGS, NNC, ANGS, CSI, NAC, UCGS & IGS. As far as I know these services are current, so I only wish to deal with what's current.
I get the pleasure (if you could call it that) of breaking the bad news all the time to people who fall for this junk. I've seen people from disappointed to downright angry about wasting money on no name slabs. I personally have a certain level of disdain for anyone offering these junk slabs for sale... My question is why list a coin in a no name tier holder at a price that is equal to a top tier example?
I've noticed a lot of descriptive words in the titles such as "Gem", "Superb", "Perfect", etc. in 40_Mila_Kokkina's Ebay store. Is that a way of getting around Ebay's policy prohibiting the listing of numeric grades for lower tier slabs? Even if this complies with the letter of the law, it could easily lead a novice collector in the wrong direction. I think it's misleading at best and deceptive at worst.
When I used to hangout at shops all the time, I watched this same situation many times. In some cases the person became mad at the shop, thinking they were trying to rip them off. It's not easy to break this type of news. It's just like having to tell someone they have a fake made in China. You used to see the same thing play out on coin forums all the time. I don't see it as much anymore. Maybe more are getting better educated on the topic.
So, are you somehow claiming that when this coin was graded it was probably in better shape then it is now? That, after being slabbed it was neglected and became damaged in the slab? Am I understand this correctly? Don't you think it is more likely that the TPG is just bad and overgrades coins? I certainly do? I also have to ask...what did you pay for this coin?
Of course it is. He can't list the numeric grade so he uses words that state the coin warrants the grade without actually listing the number.
'Twould be better to be thought of as an ignoramus dunce than as a scummy ebay seller, which is the way I'm seeing things as they develop.
...and the "good" grading services (PCGS and NGC) are somehow not current? Oh, and FYI, reducing that quarter to $20 is still about 2x the going rate for a coin in such condition.
Perhaps in the future, 30 seconds worth of research is needed prior to suggesting that an item you are selling is a rare variety. If you google "1964 accented hair kennedy" the very first link you find is an excellent page with very good explanations on how to determine if the coin is the accented hair variety. Takes about 30 seconds. http://www.ipotad.com/pages/ah2.html
This argument is getting ridiculous. I don't buy for a second that you really believe all of this stuff. You are trying to defend your questionable selling habits on eBay. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I don't care if you make a living selling to uneducated buyers, but at least have the you know what to admit to it. If you would have started this thread by saying, "I need to get ahold of PCI because I need to holder a few problem coins and sell them on eBay with innocent sounding descriptions that remove my liability of taking advantage of uneducated collectors", at least I would have respected your honesty. Sorry about being so blunt but this thread is making my blood boil.
