Crossover? Crack out? Leave as is? I think the coin looks pretty cool in an old school PCI holder that says 75% white, but... in hand, the coin has major cartwheel luster the strike is usually weak for 25-S, but this one is ok the toning on the reverse has some bluish hues in the 'darker' areas anyone have any luck crossing Peace dollars from older PCI to either PCGS or NGC? Thanks ahead for your opinions
See that crusty, rusty orange on the reverse crawling along the rims? PCGS and NGC will not straight grade that. I've tried. PCI holders have a composition that once the toning goes on for too long, that's what you get. It's too far gone. Leave it as is.
Agreed. NGC will either try to NCS it, which is not worthwhile, or send it back as damaged. Too many issues for a details grade.
Idk that NGC will cross-over from a PCI holder. PCGS does though. I agree with the others, try to find a toned peace dollar aficionado and sell for a small profit. Im not in awe of the toning but a dyed in the wool specialist might be (?) That date/mm might be tough in MS toned????No idea
PCI is good enough so that the grade is probably reasonable. BUT the toning change could be a problem. As for a crossover, I don't know. If it were mine I'd crack it out and then submit it. Or just live with it as is.
Ask yourself, is it worth paying the submittal fees for grading and shipping, for how much this coin is worth?
I would crack out to stop the toning. Get it into some acetone asap. I like the PCI holders but clearly they are reactive. I cracked out any PCI toners I have for that reason. Now whether its worth submitting I dont know. Maybe as a tag along to a biger submission. I would not submit those in the PCI holders because I dont think they would acetone them for you. That lime green under the mottle is definitely from the PCI holder. I have one in all green like that. If I can find it ill post it. I cracked it myself so practicing what I preach.
