So if I have a large cent that is in a PCGS slab and want to get newcomb number when I submit it will they regrade it. It's a MS64 and I don;t want to loose the grade is the reason why I ask.
You can submit it for a reholder ($14, or $25 if you want GoldShield + TrueView) and add variety attribution ($20). This saves you grading fees too, since you're not paying the extra regrade fee (and premium fee if your coin were to upgrade). For the record, any PCGS coin you submit for a regrade can never, per PCGS policy, come back any lower than what they've already graded it. It could increase or acquire suffixes, but it will never downgrade.
I wouldn't say "Never". It can downgrade, but if it did, the owner would be entitled to compensation under the grade guaranty program. I have never had this happen to me at PCGS, but NGC downgraded one of my coins by 2 grades.
The reason i ask is that there is a service called VSS that also does attribution. they charged me 6 dollars to identify and attach a sticker on the reverse defining identification. It is used and recognized at great Collections if that is a site you might be using in the future but i don't know where else it is recognized. If you would like to know more let me know. james good luck either way
