PCGS says the coins go through four graders independently and a verification step before they're finalized. Makes you wonder.... http://www.pcgs.com/process.html
Here is another - sometimes I wonder how they miss these things. To me the coin is nice, but should not be in problem free holder. http://coins.ha.com/itm/large-cents...2/a/1223-7103.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515 I think keyman already posted it. Nope different 1843. Had not followed the link when I first posted.
That's just it Mark, they don't "miss" them at all. They consciously choose to ignore them and say they don't matter.
I'd say the rim nicks on the VG08 quarter are a lot less egregious than the big rim bump on the AU58 cent. It causes the coin to be noncircular! Maybe they went out to a bar for lunch before they graded it?
