You have some nice coins in that set. But, I have to admit, I'm really confused by that category. Why no $1 or $3? Calling it a gold type set and leaving those out is just perplexing.
Are you sure Bob Shipee is "HighDesert"? I thought he sold his type collection, which was main point of the book. He definitely has The Waccabuc Collection: Patterns under the name of "bob". He mentioned in the book he was interested in patterns. I've read only the first edition. Cal
His collection is in the 8-piece set. There is a 12-piece set that contains those denominations. The 8-piece set allows those with a smaller budget to achieve completion. Cal
But it's not completion if random coins are just left out. That's why I don't get it. I understand not having Type I, II, III, etc.... but many gold dollars are quite affordable! Even the $3 can be had in many dates and grades for just a few thousand dollars - and if you're building a gold type set, that's not unreasonable!
I filled the 8 coin set which is $2.50, $5, $10 and $20. There’s also a 12-coin set that adds all three versions of the $1 gold and the $3.
I agree a 10-coin set that included the 8-coin set plus $1 and $3 makes sense. Chances are a PCGS registry member requested creation the 8-coin set because they had all or most of the set and didn't want to go further. Then PCGS complied. I've had good success with both NGC and PCGS in requesting that they start new registry sets. If it's a reasonable request, they will often grant it. Cal
That seems excessive for a basic type set. There has to be something in between! Something that has all of the basic types, but without varieties. Yes, I have requested a couple of sets. They get confused with world sets sometimes unless you clearly list every coin you want in the set, and one set that I thought would be a lock got denied. Oh well, I'm working on a custom set instead.
It worked fine for me today. Congratulations on your set. Very nice coins. I had to manually change the date on my laptop to 9/8/2019 as Coin Talk's certificate expired 3/10/ 2019 and I couldn't open any Coin Talk links as long as the laptop was showing the correct date (3/10/19).
You probably need to set up an account on the pcgs site. It's free and well worth doing. If you do that first, and then click the link maybe you won't get that agreement message.
