Until my recent reaquaintance with coin collecting after a 40+ year haitus, I did no know silver coins had a special ring when they are handled together. My father and I marveled over the new UHR and my lament was that I would never have a small stack to clink together to see how they felt, sounded. My dad is in his mid 80's and a lifetime magician who handled many, many coins over his years. He recently passed coins to me that few will ever see, much less fondle. Yes, I use plastic to protect. But my new hobby includes searching rolls and the half dollars have now produced many lightly circulated proofs. What joy to play with these without guilt! The proofs are nicely made and after a few scratches, they show every sign of wearing well. I can carry them in my pocket and I doubt that they will ever NOT look like proof coins. Great rant! Having a "service" grade coins didn't exist in 1963 to my knowledge and I find it to be quite annoying. How can a grader ever capture the nuances of all the different varieties of business strikes? Varieties of the exact same coin, year and mint mark? After handling sixty thousand half dollars since January of this year, I now have an eye that has seen so many coins to compare that I am not surprised to see something new every day I search. BTW....picking up 10 boxes of halves today which will have to last me until next Monday. I finished eight thousand I picked up this past Monday on Tuesday night. OK, I am 0CD!
