I'm not saying you have to like it, my point is the same point I have been making for a long time which is that a lot of what you guys criticize PCGS for NGC is doing the exact same thing but you guys give them a free pass on it.

Intellectual consistency. If you hate it on one you should hate it on both, if it's okay for one it should be okay for both.

Not just PCGS did it so I dislike it but it's okay if NGC does it

The black insert works well for some coins. However NGC has also gone too far with that San Francisco label.

Congrats on your Ike. Beautiful Coin!

As for special labels, I'm not a big fan of either PCGS's or NGC's. I think some of NGC's special Silver Eagle labels are okay, but others are too gaudy. IMO, PCGS special labels "try to hard". I much prefer understated elegance.

The two new PCGS label/inserts posted by @ddddd are an example of trying to hard. They are so distracting the focus is no longer on the coin. Seems to me the coin should be the feature, not the insert. An insert should accentuate the coin, not detract from it.

The Red, White and Blue NGC inserts for Silver Eagles are another example of "trying to hard".

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

ANYTHING hanging around the coin on a coin as big as an ASE is excessive. The West Point one might be even worse. Where do you guys GET these monstrosities???

For the record I don't mind the Golden Gate bridge one, but the West Point is not my taste.

The flag ones I do like for both if they keep it limited to certain things like Silver Eagles

Agreed! The all black holder from NGC is decent for certain coins (it makes some of the blast white Morgans and Gold stand out), but in general a plain holder is best (as the focus should be on the coin).

They are on the eBay daily deals page. :D
I wouldn't seek out those monstrosities.

Yup, agree fully. Except for "to" where "too" should be.

I had a 2018-S proof ASE done. I didn't see a slab as ugly as that offered. Good thing too. I might have verbally slapped somebody around. Mine was the ANA show First Day of Issue souvenir one, and my son has it, as he has ALL the ANA show-only slabs.

Reverse proof Silver Eagle: Best Holder NGC black insert, standard label with scale

For bullion Silver Eagle or Burnished, I like the NGC white insert. "Blue Label with scale"

For Silver Eagle Proof, Black insert or white. Not sure which I like better.

Most of NGCs colored cores are owned by bulk submitters. The flag core only HSN can get. I would assume it was a big submitter that got the rights to the PCGS one as well

The special Reagan label for NGC holders that Rick T. (Rick's Coin Show) markets on their Silver Eagles is also a "yawn" for me.

You can tell things might end up badly for Silver Eagle pricing when the focus is now on the holder/label and not the actual minted product.

I'm all for improving the old NGC "Brown Label" and PCGS standard Ugly Blue label, but it's gone completely overboard.

Now THAT'S funny! Cheap looking slabs for overpriced TV coins! I love it! Has bulk wholesale dealer schmaltz written all over it. Lee Minshull? Calling Lee Minshull!

I don't have any black core NGC holders, but I do have a 2016 silver panda with a red core. I didn't know NGC made cores like the West Point and Golden Gate Bridge examples posted. Yikes. I just don't like those- WAY too busy for my liking. That big silver eagle gets lost in the chaos. I too think the coin should be the main focus, and I think NGC's white core is best at accomplishing this. The red core for this panda is still kinda neat, even though the white presents better.

The reason I don't care for this is partially political. I have a "China attitude problem".

Most of the labels are the same way. I do appreciate the presentation value of a good number of them from both PCGS/NGC but a lot of the ones I really like are exclusives especially the signatures. I would have submitted enough for every signature on the baseball HOF coins if I was allowed too

Big fan, eh? I'm not even sure I LIKE domed coins.

Hall of Famer baseball signatures with a baseball coin, yes count me in even for the Pete Rose one. Domed coins aren't my favorite but I do think it fit well on that one and was pleasantly surprised how that turned out. Domed for the sake of being different though, no thanks
