I think The Finn was referring to the Baseball coins where they had labels "signed" by players long dead. Of course in the case that was posted the regular label was the MORE expensive one.
I think he was kind of trying to when he said That's why I think he was referring to those autopen signed labels. I don't think he was referring to the JT Staton ones. I agree he could have been a little clearer.
He was clearly talking about the signatures on the HOF dollar. He wasn’t referring to your coins at all.
Honestly, Conder, I think he was playing both ends against the middle. He didn't have to make any reference to dead men, at all. I find it offensive. Chris
Yes labels can and do matter, but not always and some of it depends on the grade. The authentic hand signed signatures are one exception depending on who signed it. Does anyone really think a Apollo commemorative shouldn't be worth more with a hand signed Buzz Aldrin signature? Show labels can matter, first day can matter, all things that add to the history and the story of the coin. Some people are drawn towards them for the extra story, some for the signature if there is one, some just because the special labels are often more attractive. No one has to like them or pay up for them, if someone doesn't like them don't buy them no need to demean people for not doing what you want. A lot of misinformation noise always happens with these questions of opinions being presented as facts
Here’s an advisory the US Mint issued in 2016 about these special designations. I suggest a careful read is in order. https://www.usmint.gov/news/consumer-alerts/consumer/first-strike-designations
"Our strict quality controls assure that coins of this caliber are produced from each die set throughout its useful life." Thanks for the good laugh.
Looks like everyone but you understood what I was saying. Amazing to me (but common today) how easily people can stir things around to make themselves victims. I think the term for kids is to "take a chill pill".
I didn’t post that advisory for the sake of humoring anyone. This is the key portion: United States Mint products are not individually numbered and we do not keep track of the order or date of minting of individual coins. Any dates on shipping boxes are strictly for quality control and accounting purposes at the United States Mint. The date on the box represents the date that the box was packed, verified and sealed, and the date of packaging does not necessarily correlate with the date of manufacture.
The mint claiming strict QC was funny. If you noticed they did the cop-out saying individual coins, unless they have some antiquated joke of a system they know what groups were minted when and can match that to die use. There have been products due to their extreme delays where it was easy to see what a FS or ER actually was and well their attempt to discredit a FOIA request was questionable at best to put it nicely. All of that said, none of that is relevant at all. Everyone knows what First Strike is, it literally says it on the slab. Some people just don't want to accept that it can and does matter because its a modern, yet if someone was like I just found this documentation proving this was a first day sale of this Seated Proof or this Morgan was found in the first 30 days many of the people would be gushing over the history. As I said like it or don't, but people need to stop trying to demean it just because it's not how they would do it or think only what they have/like is worthy and the rest are fools. Markets set the price and people determine what they like and want to buy. There's always someone higher on the food chain that could look down and be just as demeaning as some are
You and one and one-half* others is everyone. I'll keep that in mind. *Conder101 admitted that you could have been a little clearer, but that would mean that you just might have to admit that you were wrong. No, you couldn't do that! You're a grown-up big boy, aren't you! You know what you can do with your pills! Chris
The special Earth Rising label is special. The only way to get that label was through bulk submissions. So, when I the little guy wanted that label I could not get it. I chose that label and received the other AMF label. PCGS didn't even call and say hey we are not giving you what you want, instead here take this. I would buy the coin in the Earth Rising label.
Good reading. It says it all and should enlighten a few who take the time to read it. It's easy to understand as well. Thanks for posting this.
Yep, I think the Earth Rising Label was the coolest for the Apollo Series. I didn't care for the AMF Label at all. I'm also one of the little guys that could have picked the Bland Blue Label, Flag Label or the AMF....I passed on them all. I do have a 2019-S Earth Rising Kennedy that I bought from one of those special dealers...
