I kid you not. From Photo-Certified Coin Institute AU-58 to PCGS MS62.

Well, lets discuss it since this can be a great educational forum. Apparently there is absolutely no wear on this coin. Nada. It's all strike weakness. Are there any circulation marks in the fields? There's a little gunk or a spot on the right obverse. Rims look clear. Color in the pics is accurate. The strike is horrible, but is that a reason to penalize the grade? I honestly sent it in with zero expectations. Looked original to me but I had no clue as to grade.

As long as the coin does not have wear from circulation, strike weakness doesn't affect most grading until mid MS range as far as I know. Definitely an interesting result and a great coin.

Yes it does, but it really needs to be weak to affect it at 62 - much weaker that that coin is. Those oak leaves would probably keep it from a 65 and the lettering might drop it another grade.

My first reaction was to wonder whether or not PCGS has an employee drug testing policy...

However, I understand that weak strikes can be very deceiving. I would have guessed XF45 but now I see how it can be technically uncirculated.

Even if it is graded MS62, Do you think it would bring 62 money? If people buy the coin and not the slab, wouldnt they rather have an nicely struck ms62 cent. It will be interesting to see what it sells for.

That's true. The strike will work against it, but good photos of the shelf doubling will probably work in it's favor. In the end, you know as well as I do that eBay buyers tend to buy the holder and not care about the coin (or so it seems to me).
