Is there any way to tell the approximate date a coin was certified by PCGS? I know the current holders have been used since 1999 and that is some help, but I would like to be more precise on the current ones and the OGH type. Thanks.....
@Old Error Guy - I have asked the same question. You would think, when you entry a certification number into a TPG'ers website the date of certification would also pop up. But it doesn't. http://www.anacs.com/Populations/CertVerification.aspx You might find something here as well: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/pc...s-their-progression-through-the-years.205452/
Just found this from @Conder101 https://forums.collectors.com/messa...d=222533&highlight_key=y&keyword1=generations
Very roughly you can date by the time the specific variety of slab and label were in use. For PCGS the cert #s -mostly- grow over time. But they don't disclose it. For NGC the invoice #s are less indicitive of history - Paper invoice #s are in one range(s) and the omline generated ones in others. Customer service might tell the owner. For ANACS again ranges were used at different times. And when fhe database was loaded in 2005 the original date data was lost.
They changed their slab designs so many times since 1999 I've lost track of how many times they've changed them, but it's a lot ! Over the years some slab designs only lasted a few months while others lasted several years, but they were always changing - and still are. The last change I recall was less than a year ago, May of 2015 if memory serves. But there may have even been one since then. All of the TPGs change their slab designs, and have many, many, times.
