hello all--newer to here, but have been collecting and roll searching for a long while. i have boughten slabbed coins but never sent anything in--but am considering needing to. I had a question, and is in clarification to what someone had told me---here goes--i know grading services will grade, or rather mark as ' Genuine' if cleaned, or such and such details, 'cleaned/ improperly cleaned.' Someone had told me they( Grading services) can tell if a coin had any sort of cleaning---even if just dropped in hot water, water, or dawn dish soap......I know if a coin is polished, abraded, acid dipped or acid dated, it is blatantly obvious---but what if you had a coin you did not think was cleaned, but went through the wash in someones pocket or was 'mildly' washed off ( no acid/polish) some time years ago???? if you send something in to be graded, are you just taking that chance?? is there any 'rule' to tell if cleaned if not obvious?? Thank you in advance for any help/replies/comments/info. and sorry so long winded.
