I think i'm going to do my top 10 now since i don't see anything special happening by the end of the year, though i'm still waiting for a few pieces to show up. I guess it's been an interesting year, bought quite a few, sold some of them , definitely feel like i've improved my collection in terms of quality, rarity, also reduced the number of damaged pieces. Sadly quite a few nice ones that i've bought didn't make it , i should have made a top 20 to be honest! Following the Poll idea that Chris had for his top ten, i've decided to do the same, since i'm curious to see what you see as appealing . 1. The first St Gallen taler, 1563 2. 1536 Mansfeld taler, really love this early piece ! 3. 1551 Stolberg taler 4. 1756 Ellwangen taler 5. 1643 Piastra 6. 1620 Pisa tallero 7. 1710 Brixen taler 8. 1744 Augsburg taler 9. ND Messerano tallero 10. Ecu 1649 Rochelle! I literally woke up at 1.30 in the morning and bought it, probably i'm obsessed with this piece because i've been checking it every day for a month until last night!
Great additions this year. I really like that 1643 Piastra. You posted it earlier in the year and created a need for me to find one. The one I ended up with is far inferior to yours.
Thanks Chris, i'm sure you'll find an upgrade for it, there were a few well preserved pieces available in the last 4 months and since it's not that rare , more will be auctioned in the near future!
They are all gorgeous! I would pick 1/2/3 not because it easy/ but I like the St. Gallen Brown Bear/ the Mansfield "Knight " on his steed/ and always loved the Stolberg "Hirsch" Congratulations on your fine top ten. John
Thank you John! I will vote with the Farnese in your top 10, i'm still to add a scudo of Odoardo, hopefully a ducatone of Alessandro too!
Just wanted to thank you all for taking the time and sharing a thought, to be honest i was expecting the Mansfeld piece to be 1 or 2 second place so it's not a surprise These are some of the coins that i would have considered for an extended top!
I don't think it's a proof . Here's the same one , but in a top grade! https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...m-152-mdccxliv-1744-cuid-1143369-duid-1344520
I've just checked the auction, OMG, what a show! The only thing that i'll get from that auction is the free catalogue , they're all out of my league! That 20 Ducat of Basel (68,94 grams) is an incredible piece of art!
I saw this one in Sincona Auction/ its perfect! Don't laugh but I have the wee lil brother in my collection AV Quarter Dukat from Elsen/ but at least its FDC. Have the AV 1653 Dukat/ reverse has soft struck central part.
So far, I have only been able to add one AV 10 Zecchini to my collection. Coins of AV 10 Goldgulden/ Dukaten/ Zecchini are so beautifull/ but always mucho expensive.... I bought this as an unsold lot from Ranieri Auction for 4K/ glad now that I did.....was a bargain.
