Hi everyone,

I had a fun numismatic day today. I was set up at the local Parsippany,NJ show with my friend Yosef (Joebb21 on the PCGS boards). The show features around 100 dealers with all sorts of US type, bullion and paper money. There are some decent coins on the floor, but as with every show, quality is hard to find. It was an interesting show for me and I sold some coins I wanted to get rid of like a problem large cent that I had to take a $400 loss on but was happy to do so. Gold generics were dead at the show and very few people were interested in buying.

There were a few interesting moments at the show. I saw a dealer had a silver eagle in a PCGS slab labeled World Trade Center recovery meaning it was in one of the vaults under the Twin Towers. I asked him how much, he said $37 (the price of a generic silver eagle). Since I knew him, I told him they are worth more. His answer, I dont care, to me its just another eagle. I laughed and said ill take it. He was happy. They go for $200 on ebay, so I put it in my showcase for $200. It sold in a matter of minutes to a non-collector for $175! Its amazing how people can leave money on the table by not doing their research. Whats more funny is they dont want to listen when you tell them they have something better!

The second intersting thing. I took my last problem chain cent to the show. I didnt care if it sold as I love the coin. I was offerred a very interesting item in trade. A large clipped George Washington signature! It was from a collector who discussed it with me previously. The deal is pending until Wednesday so I can get the signature authenticated, but it looks good to me based on the research ive done. The deal will be my chain cent for the Washington plus some cash. The thing that is unique about the signature is that its a very large example which was obviously cut from a large document. I can see it worth around a good amount. Considering what I paid for the chain cent, this Washington signature will be a great deal in the long run. I hope to give it to my daughter some day. Will see what happens.

One awkward moment was when a dealer came to my table and inquired about a coin. He didnt remember that it was one I bought from him a year earlier. I quoted him a price and he went on for a few and said thats WAY too high and it only lists on sheet for so and so. When he was done, I told him I bought it from HIM for $25 less than what I quoted! He left after a bit of awkward silence. lol

A few other highlights...I always keep a few freebies for little kids who come to the table. Today I had a small bag full of Indian Head Cents. So a brother and sister came to the table with their father. I asked what they collect, and they told me pennies. PERFECT! I handed them both two IHC's and they were SHOCKED! The boy looked at me and said, "You just give coins away to kids?". I said sure, you are the future of this hobby. The kid goes "Wow! You're a good person!"!

I couldnt help but laughing after all that has happened....

Purchases included a genuine Wreath Cent I sold to a collector who asked if I would be interested in buying it back. A gold CAC Walker half with gorgeous color, a Lincoln Commem with beautiful color, a NGC/CAC PF67 Walker Half, and a golden toned Oregon from the Guttag collection.

Thanks for reading!

Ankur
