I just got back from Costa Rica, and you should see what the security is like there. They search absolutely everything you bring in and won't let you wear sunglasses or a billed cap (have to either turn the bill backwards or take it off). All had armed guards and metal detectors, and all money was kept behind bulletproof glass. One in Puerto Jiminez even had a door similar to an airlock that garanteed only one person could enter or exit at a time. Bank robberies in Costa Rica are almost unheard of, due to the level of security any given bank has. Huge contrast to US banks, where the emphasis is only making the place seem customer friendly and they try not to have very many visible security measures for fear of scaring off customers.
Visited a couple of banks in Brazil like that you had to put mobiles & any metal into a tray, pass through a built in metal detector then your stuff was returned by another guard, our guide at the time managed to jam the revolving door which brought the branch to a standstill while they dismatled it to let him out LOL
Ha! Yeah, I tried for years. I started off with First Virginia bank when I was a kid. The manager was a real jerk to me so I closed my account and went elsewhere. First Virginia got bought by Sovran. I switched to Crestar and it got purchased by Sovran. Sovran was later absorbed into Nations. I finally gave up until I moved to Wyoming. Now I bank with a regional institution.
the banks around here won't let you wear hats, sunglasses, sockcaps, or anything like that. also the parking lots are confusing where you can't get out in a hurry. i guess its better safe than sorry.
I think everyone these days is err'g on the side of caution. One of the coin shops I frequent get's many calls daily 'do you sell gold' and the past month has increased.. esp w/ the increase in spot.... and when they answer, 'yes' .. the next (stupid) question is 'how much do you have there ???' .... and while it seems to be a FAIR question it is spooky because it feels as if they are being 'cased'. I was sitting there one day when the owner had rec'd three such calls in one day and was pretty much on edge .. and when one of the buyers walked in, reached in his back waistband of his jeans to pull out his .... BANK BAG of CASH... the owner was already reaching in the back waistband of Her jeans to pull out something else. It was at that point the buyer got a very serious lesson in how to buy gold and how to walk into a coin shop. I can imagine being a bank teller would be even more spooky because cash is easier to move than coins ... I dont even like going INSIDE banks especially near closing time.
