I have been purchasing a lot of junk silver lately. Can guys tell me what you think about the coin on the right. I am afraid of counterfeits.
I'd say weigh them both, and drop them both on a hard surface and see if they sound the same. But there really is something weird going on with that Y... I don't know much about walkers, but someone else can help you
With that other mark on the rim at the 5:00 position, I'd suspect it's been damaged. Weigh it, measure it, test it with a magnet, ping it, etc. It should be 12.50g, 30.6mm across and 1.8mm thick. A strong magnet should not stick to it. Some people recommend doing a sliding magnet test, but I have a hard time judging pass/fail on coins using that method because it's not obvious to me if it slides quickly or slowly, especially on coins small than ASE's or dollars.
IMO, the Y may be due to a partially grease filled die. The lower part of the dress seems weak compared to the other ('43) coin which looks more worn. The weak rays of the sun may also be a grease filled die situation. Have you tried the other suggestions? Weigh it; measure it. Try the comparison drop sound test on a hard surface. Good luck, and I hope it's a winner for you.
no need to be so paranoid unless its a rare coin worth way over melt value. Almost no chance bullion 90% is being faked, a lot of these coins will be damaged from circulation. Unless the weight is way off (you need to factor in some wear ofc as well) or there is something obviously wrong with how the coin looks I would not be too worried. Just my 2 cents though.....
