Just got some of these back from grading, Ive posted the Battleship before, but I got a great result, so I'm reposting Also some Richmond FRBN Aces
I got some old-school FRNs this week... not as cool as some of the notes you guys post, but I still like them. The $10 has a gnarly crease (which is a shame) but the antique car on the back, which is my favorite feature, shows up clearly:
Great news! I just got a really nice super limey New York 1928C, the hard to find release... Great news! I don't already have a really nice super limey New York 1928C, the hard to find release...strangely, the New York has fewer reported than the Cleveland despite having more printed, and both are less rare than the Chicago. This is new, making 32 reported I believe. Looks like I will be keeping this one! Got quite a few pickups this weekend, nothing special but some nice limes coming, and a star or two, always like those. Now I just wait for the mailman...
Today's note is one I just received that is helping me finish a set I am doing for a frame, all 1928 numerical districts. Also including all 1934 lettered districts in lime green. With this note, I am now down to Boston and Dallas on the 20's...
Picked up some new foreign notes at my local coin shop for a dollar a piece. Found my first Deutschemark note outside of 1990s Germany (!!), a commemorative Bahamas note, and some World War II era Japanese notes. They are in rough shape, but I like them a lot. Besides the U.S. and France, pre-occupation Japan might be my favorite banknote maker.
And the Japanese notes. The 100 Yen note appears to be series B (1950s / 1960s) but still cool nonetheless.
And THE MAILMAN COMETH... he brought me this great Greek note I have been waiting for, another of the 1955 releases which I feel are the design pinnacle for Greek notes (though again some of those 1920's are in the running). As with the other 1955 releases, the real gem is the reverse, this one I believe is supposed to show Socrates pontificating to the crowd. Also a glamour shot with a nice Greek anforetta, showing Athena in a race I believe.
Got these 1963 and 1963A twos. They are all in spectacular condition with some great embossing. Check out the embossing on this note. The top points of the seal nearly caused some pinholes! And lastly another Hawaii SC. I already have another in XF condition, but I couldn't pass up the deal on this one. This one is Crisp Uncirculated - probably would get a 60 or so if I get it graded. It does have a corner fold on the lower right. I got a good deal as well. I paid $135 for all this! More to come.
Nice pickups, Funkee! I really like the crispness of those $2.00s. All of mine from that era seem a little smooshed, for lack of a more precise term.
Okay, got a nice handful of notes in, gonna dribble them at you over the next few days... we'll start slow and get stronger... Here's a 1934-A, not uncommon, but the serial number is pretty darn high. I had one of these with 9990, and when this came along, well, now I am stuck chasing the highest serial on this release. I actually like the older note a hair better quality wise, but this one is really all about the serial...
Time to go BIG, as in a large size FRBN from Cleveland, this makes 9 out of 12 Districts I now have, with Philly on the way via mail. Only Minny and St. Louis left... picked this up at Heritage on Thursday.
Yes, you have a 500 Riels note from Cambodia, circa 1991. The obverse is of Angkor Wat and the reverse is of agriculture. Its worth a buck or two at the most... even in Cambodia people don't use the money. American dollars are much more widely accepted.
My last 3 notes - back to coins now! To finish off what I wanted for large notes......the first one dollar silver certificate issued: Low cost 1928A Funnyback.......had to have one! The wife likes coins with birds, and is a Canadian, so I got this really low cost one. The last $2 paper note issued by Canada.......
