Bought this today. My first gold note and my first large note. Condition is a bit rough but i gotta start somewhere.
I started with an ok condition 10 dollar gold cert from a member here. You are right gotta start somewhere
Added a couple more large notes in the last week. 1907 $5 Woodchopper - one of my favorite designs 1923 Silver And a couple small fractional notes. 1862-63 Postal 1874
Finally got my Heritage order and these two new Rebel notes. The 1864 T68 $10 is AU and looks even better in hand.
Nice pickups Doctor. Just out of curiousity, can you make out any of the signatures on the $100 Confederate note? I try to decipher names on my notes so I can try to find out something about them. For some reason the pictures won't enlarge. Bruce
Nice additions, Dr. Kegg. The rebel T68 note is my favorite Confederate banknote, I love the cannon engraving on the obverse.
A couple new ones. "Apparent" on this one as some idiot in the past used a pen on some of the creases, but it made the price fit my budget:
Bruce, I will look at the note and see if I can get any signature combinations. If not, I will also look at my Confederate note reference guide and see if they are in there as well.
Mack, too bad about the "Design Redrawn" designation, but i couldn't really notice it, so hopefully it isn't detracting for you. I'd love to have one of those notes if I could get one for a decent price that looked nice.
Hi Dr Kegg. That was my "holy Grail" of notes, and the ink job isn't really noticeable at all unless you look hard for it. It was still an expensive note, but it made it much more affordable than a straight VF 35 (still trying to justify the cost to myself LOL!). I've wanted one for a long time that wasn't overly worn or torn, and it just about completes my small representative collection of old large notes that I wanted. I'd still like to get a Martha Washington dollar, but need a break from spending now. Maybe some day, but for now I have what I wanted. I have the uncertified ones in hard plastic BCW slabs, and I like to just grab the whole bunch and look at the designs once in a while.
Mack, I can't agree with you more when saying you wanted one that wasn't tattered since that seems to be the only ones I see around here. Then of course I can get some in better condition for a ton of money, but that's not possible for me right now. Still a nice note you have there!
I've SEEN that Zeus! He's in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Here's a shot I took when we were there last fall (strategically cropped so as not to offend).
This isn't actually a new acquisition, it's a "forgot I had this" - found it while looking through some stored stuff. I'm pretty sure I grabbed it from circulation. I don't even remember when ( getting old is not pretty )
I stopped using the rigid BCW holders, because they are made from PVC. They will eventually damage the paper in a few years time.
