Nice pick up Ron! I have been watching Heritage for the past two weeks for any decent fractionals and either didn't find any, or they were going for more than I believe they were worth. Maybe ebay is my next stop.
So with three folds, looks to be in XF condition then. Still a nice note for the condition. Congrats!
It's to bad they didn't put Ike on paper! However he does pretty good on a coin. My goodness when I was a kid my mother would give me an Ike that would fill my palm and I could buy junk food all day! By 1980 they became very sporadic in circulation, but dem Kennedy's were everywhere. By the late 80's the Kennedy's became oddballs, and people started hording them. I do have about two hundred Ike's around here in various forms, slabed - unslabed - Silver - Clad - and good Old Denver die clashes... FYI: Over at the Denver Mint, they have a nice large framed photo of an Ike coin along the tour, along with a bunch of other stuff that will make you droll. The Freaking Mint Cops actually had to come grab me cause I lagged away from the tour LOL... He was cool though, and we talked about Tommy Guns on the long way back to the tour. Oh and they are still in use. Note to self, don't try to rob the Mint unless you can handle a wall of 45 caliber lead. I didn't get any answers on weather they had 10mm version of the Thompson which do exist with the FEDs. Yea Yea I digress...
So here are the notes I just bought. I know nothing about paper money and I'm totally an impulse buyer. I did good with my last purchase (1896 $1, 1899 $1, 1923 red seal etc) but no clue if I paid full retail or even more for this batch. I bought some coins and paper yesterday. For the notes pictured here, I paid $65 total. It wasn't a lot of money so I figured why not. My picture taking skills still suck 1934 $10 silver certificate 1914 FRN $10 Boston 1963A $2 red seal 1957A Silver certificate 1935E silver certificate
I think you did OK there. That $2 red seal saved you, else you wouldn't have a whole lot of room for resale. Your kind of like me, just play the field with everything. I have few things a focus one, but if I see a good price I buy just about any note. Seeing that 1914 has me really wanting a $50! But boy those suckers go up exponentially in higher denominations! You do have to save up and score a high grade $20 and really take in that art work! Get one that is graded though! Wayyyyy to many ungraded doctored & bleached 1914 that are sold as XF & AU's. If you buy a raw mid to high grade, make sure the dealer has 100% money back deal!
Thanks. I never seem to resell anything - although at times I tell my sell to buy things just for that reason. I've purchased notes before and have just sold them for what i paid for them to someone who collects them. I typically buy them as a secondary thing to coins. I've been talking to a guy about some coins and he said he also has a few rare notes so maybe at some point I'll have more to post.
Great additions Clay. I also have these from the BEP. I got them early in my collecting days, and thought they would grade Super Gem. So I sent them in for grading and the $50 (CE00003640*) came back 66EPQ and the $5 (F00133785*) came back 65EPQ. I learned my lesson, and now keep most of my BEP pick-ups ungraded with the souvenir folder.
How do you store you BEP folders? I've found that I have to store them horizontally (stacked on top of each other). If I store them vertically (like books on a bookshelf), they tend to warp over time.
I store them vertically and empty, meaning the note(s) is stored seperately with a notation of which BEP folder it is from. Have you ever seen a BEP folder for Prosperity Sheets ?
Prosperity "Sheets"? — I've never seen any. The only BEP Prosperity sets I have are the Year of the Goat/Monkey/Rooster Prosperity notes.
Prosperity Sheets; 1995 $5 , blocks H-E through H-K . These blocks were only available in sheet form from the BEP and all start with 8888. The H-F and H-G mostly went to China, and are the hardest to find, and the most expen$ive.
I was going to get some thin rolls of mylar, and one of those 18" heat sealer deals. Then it would be a matter of getting an over sized binder. I framed a bunch of my BEP stuff, but man this newest 2012 set is pretty big, and horizontal at that! The 777 fits nicely in page protectors, but the chicom calender money or premium sets I just keep them closed in page protectors till I get the above worked out. I'll probably put the premium set (Color of Money, etc) in their own binders from A to L. Another option would be to seal them between two piece of acrylic stock, and drill for a three ring binder. Put little rubber feet in the four corner to keep them separated. It would be like a book of thin frames. Much better than parking them for no one to enjoy.
Picked up a couple nice crisp notes with interesting serials. I think I'm going to submit both of them for grading. The Hawaii is probably a 64 while the silver cert is close to 66, 65 at the least. Let me know what you guys think!
I'm agreeing with Steve on this one. Nice notes, but Hawaii looks to have a center forld. Is it the scan?
