OK ... So I went to a show today. The first at this location for the past 16-months. I was a little bit disappointed because I expected to see everyone as excited as me. NOPE ... it was just another show. As it was ... the guys that I really wanted to see didn't show up. Their tables were labeled but empty. I did however, pick up a few items. This is the first ...
Was behind a gentleman at the bank when the teller couldn’t exchange some foreign currency. I offered the guy $20 for the bunch and we shook hands on a deal. Nothing in good shape but I was happy to get a few Bahamas dollars.
Not REAL currency ... just COOL. DeLaRue testnote - Albert Einstein - 50 units I don’t know from auctions ... Expert's estimate € 180 - € 200 As the reserve price was not met, it was not sold.
Recently picked up this Confederate note.. The Central vignette is of Hope standing beside the Anchor with Christopher Memminger to lower right who was the founder of the Confederate financial system and the first Confederate States Secretary of the Treasury. He was also the principal author of the Provisional Constitution of the Confederate States. R.M.T. Hunter on the lower left was a Confederate Secretary of State, Speaker of the House and Senator and had a Liberty Ship, the SS Robert M Hunter named after him. One thing you can say about obsolete currency is there's a little history lesson in every note
Got this pair today. The Elizabeth ones are bulk bin fodder and show up often, but I hadn't seen a George VI one before.
@Kashmir Pulaski You got a very interesting and impressive collection of bills there. With foreign currency and old US bills, I wouldn't know a real one from a counterfeit. A person really needs to know this stuff extremely well to verify genuine authenticity. When I was a kid (pre-teen) I was friends with an elderly guy who collected coins and antiques his entire life. One of the pieces of advise he passed down to me was just that, to really know for sure before purchasing. I've held onto that piece of coin collecting wisdom since then. .
