It definitely was! He was originally asking only $20 for it, but he gave me a couple bucks off since I bought the $5 and the $1 SC bundle from him as well.
2017 $1 FRN Double-Quad: All the talk about low and unique and pattern serial numbers grew on me. I should send you guys the bill for this bill !! Pretty high-quality as can be expected with a recent bill. You can spend some serious $$$ on recent bills in high quality with unique characteristics like low/unique serial numbes, so I hope to concentrate most of my future buying (aside from a recent splurge) on older stuff. Anybody into pattern SN's like double quads, radars, etc.? Would I pay alot more if everything about this bill (grade, year, etc.) were the same but I got a $5 or $10 or $50 bill ? I think I won this for about $150 or so. Won't break me, but you buy a few of these things and it adds up to serious $$$ that prevents me from buying my dream $500 or $1,000 bills or some nice coins I have my eyes on.
BTW, that blemish on the front left side midway up is on the outside mylar. I removed it but this pic was taken before I did that.
$1928 $20 FRN: Here's something you have probably never read or heard or will again regarding a coin or bill purchase: I have NO FREAKING IDEA why I bought this !! I'm serious. I am partial to PMG 58 bills, but this is a regular seal, not Light or Dark Green. No unique serial number...not a Gold Certificate....only thing I can think of is I saw it during an auction while waiting to bid for something I really wanted, and bid on it. Probably put in a "stink bid" and somehow won. So basically I have a 1928 $20 bill (which probably came out in 1933 or 1934) in 58 condition. No unique SN but I do have a unique story to go with the bill.
Now that I think about it....maybe THAT'S why I bought it ?? Or maybe I got it for like 50% of the expected price range ? I gotta solve this mystery......
2017 $1 FRN PMG 67 "5's": Close but no cigar .....I got seven 5's on this one. 1 digit changes on this bill and the cost probably goes up 10-fold, maybe more. When I bought the Double Quad, I thought this was a cheap substitute since 8-solids are pretty pricey in Superb Gem even for new bills, and ditto for Gem or other high-quality older bills.
Endeavor, I don't recall that being in the description and I know I didn't buy it for that reason...that said, it IS a Numerical Seal and now I'm doing some research on this type of note. Good job ! Thanks !
Fascinating the changes in the "Legal Tender" disclaimer over the years. I have to do some more work on why they made the additions and deletions over the years.
The numerical seals were the first notes printed from Series 1928 (and small-size notes altogether) before they switched to letters. Definitely less common and therefore more desirable and valuable.
So what you are saying is I may have lucked out and made one of my best investments in this field through a combination of ignorance and stupidity ? KA-CHING !!!
