1935's in 58: A bunch of $1 SC's in PMG 58 grade. Again, nothing special, just decent looking bills from 85 years ago.
This 1935G $1 SC (NM) replacement note arrived yesterday. The 1935F-G-H $1 Silver Certificates were printed in the late 1950’s into the early 1960’s.
Well, here she is! My first purchase into this hobby and I couldn’t be happier! iPhone quality for now until I can get home to my SLR. Enjoy!
I would think for our purposes a recent iPhone should be as good or better than most SLRs, no ? Not a photo or camera expert by any stretch, just going by online reviews on resolution, pixels, etc. that I read. BTW...if you win it at auction on Ebay, HA, GC, etc....just save the pictures they use there. They're usually high-quality and professionally done. No light/glare problems.
Almost any name brand phone within the last 5 years takes quality photos. A dslr, take the Nikon D3300, has a few advantages: sensor is physically larger than a phone camera sensor - higher “quality” images Pixel count higher : 24.2mp vs 12mp for iPhone 6s, for example. End result: dslr pictures can be blown up to MASSIVE sizes without loss of quality. But as long as you don’t plan on making 15x24 foot posters a phone is better in all the ways that count: value, portability, and user friendliness
Good points! Looking at the photos on my phone and laptop, it does look like my iPhone 7+’s quality is sufficient enough for the forum. Very true. Definitely not blowing these photos up or getting prints.
Walked into a local coin & stamp shop and left with this. My first Hawaii note! They also had a $5 Hawaii note, but it was more than I was looking to spend today. Pretty excited to have this as my second purchase!
Did some spontaneous buying over the weekend and purchased six new notes. This is the first to arrive. Being in Hawaii, things take a day or two longer to arrive.
Pair of 1928A $1 SC's: OK, I admit it...I'm watching the HAs a few weeks ago and I see some AU bills come up. I hadn't really scouted them, but they came up as a pair, PMG 58 & 55. I hadn't seen them before. I like bidding/buying on AU high 50's bills because (1) they look nice (2) don't cost as much as MS-65s (my real preference low bar) or MS-63's (if the 65's are just too pricey). But....you get into the bidding fever...I saw them come up......you panic ("LOT CLOSING" )....and I bid. And won. And quite frankly, I've seen better 58's (let alone 55's, but really the 58's) that were cleaner/whiter on the borders and the face of the bill. Horrible bills ? Absolutely not. But if they didn't come across as fast as they did and if I had more time, I probably would have passed. As it is, no big shakes -- cost me about $100. Still....... Anyway, a lesson for me and maybe for you. What's strange is how I can see whiter paper on that Gold Certificate PMG 45 I showed a few months back. Comments welcome on the bills or my trigger-happiness....
Nice bill...forgot what I paid for it but probably < or ~ $100 ? Can't remember...not spending any Big $$$ now, just small stuff.....saving up for some fun @ FUN.
Nice bills, HC !!! Was that 1869 paper one of the namesake "Greenbacks" used during/after The Civil War ? That Black Eagle SC is very nice...great grade...I think I put in a few stink bids on some a few weeks ago, they usually go for about $300 or more in that grade I believe. Not cheap.
thanks! Not sure about the “Greenback” namesake. The only other name I’ve seen it referred to is “rainbow notes.”
